A builder was jailed for four years today after using a Go-Pro camera to record the trail of destruction he caused as he used two diggers to smash up five newly-built retirement homes.

Daniel Neagu, 31, sang, whistled and shouted 'whoop whoop' as he demolished the McCarthy and Stone retirement cottages at Royal Gardens, Ermine Street, Buntingford, Herts.

In half an hour, he caused over three-quarters of a million pounds' worth of damage. The total loss - taking into reinstatement costs - came to just under £1 million, St Albans crown court heard.

Neagu, who came to the UK in 2015, broke onto the building site late on a Saturday afternoon and launched the revenge attack because he claimed his firm, called 'Danny Boy', was owed £16,000 by a sub-contractor building firm named Fentons.

Fentons had withheld the money because one of its vehicles, which was fitted with a tracker, ended up in Romania.

Dark-hair Neagu, who has a goatee beard, said he wanted to teach the two companies a lesson, took the two diggers to the homes just before 5.30pm on Saturday 11 August last year.

Prosecutor Richard Hutchings played the judge footage that Neague shot from the cabson a GO - Pro camera and his I-phone as he driver around the site.

Neagu sat calmly in the the dock watching as the blue-armed digger with a scoop bucket crashed into 3 three-bed and 2 two-bed bungalows, smashing them down to their foundations.

He shouted 'f..... s... company' and sang the dance song 'Oh Nar Nar' as he took his revenge.

He came across a couple in the area saying: 'Hello. If you like to call the police. I did it because I didn't get the money. I have been working for McCarthy and Fentons. I did it.

'I had guys working for me. They haven't paid me. I decided even if I got into trouble I did it for a reason. I don't blame you for calling the police.. They ask for £400,000 for these homes. They don't have £16,000 to pay (me). I wanted to give them a lesson.'

He told another member of the public: 'I am not dangerous. Someone has called the police. Keep calm.'

Hertfordshire police arrived and he was arrested. In an interview he said his firm Danny Boy was carrying out groundwork for the company but was owed money. He said he was 'helpless, angry, disappointed and scared.'

He said he did not have money to pay the six people who had been working for him. He said he and his family had been threatened.

Neagu said he took Fenton's van to Romania but would return it when he was paid, saying: 'They have to learn not to take the piss out off the workers.'

When he was charged, he said: 'I did it because they owed me money and I thought it was more healthy for me to be inside rather than outside.' The prosecutor said that was a reference to him being safer in custody rather than free, because of the threats he was receiving.

The prosecutor said: 'All five properties were demolished.' The 3-bed bungalows were valued at £475,000 and the 2-bed homes at £425,000.

He said the total damage caused was £765,125. In addition the homes had to be rebuilt, doubling the cost which is being met by insurance. 'The costs will have to be replicated the second time around.'

Neagu, who is single, of Athelstone Road, Harrow, North London appeared for sentence having pleaded guilty to damaging property. He had no previous convictions in the UK or Romania.

His lawyer Andrew Campbell 'It is an extraordinary case. He provided the evidence against himself.

'He filmed the whole thing and gave an explanation to members of the public and gave a full explanation to the police.

'He was under threat. He carried out this demonstration because he had not been paid.

'Also, he had been provoked and had been insulted by one of the representatives of the company who called him a midget and a gypsy. He was called an idiot and stupid.

'It had been put on Facebook that he had been paid and that he had defrauded the men (who had been working for him). That was not the case. His reputation had been trashed on social media. Threats had been made to him and his family.

'The police accept he had received threats. He had gone to the police and was sent away being told it was a civil matter. He had been so scared he welcomed a period in custody.

'There was provocation. He had been defrauded. He wasn't paid. He was demonstrating to the world and his workers that he had not been paid.'

Jailing him, Judge Stephen Warner total him he had caused: 'wholesale destruction.'

The judge went on: 'The result was the effective destruction of five of those retirement homes that had been earmarked for occupation. You went to the length of recording your activities.

'The footage is truly shocking. The words you spoke quite openly showed your motivation on to teach a lesson those who had not paid you a lesson.

'You were perfectly relaxed and not ashamed.

'This was planned, deliberate and wanton vandalism involving the destruction of other peoples' property undertaken by you as a pure act of revenge.

'It caused financial loss on a very significant scale. Even if they did owe you money, even if there were threats or you felt belittled that cannot begin to justify your conduct that day which is unacceptable in a civilised society.

'Quite apart from economic loss this has caused very significant inconvenience to the proposed occupiers of those retirement homes. '

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
