A majority (57 percent) of Americans want the government to do more to ensure their economic and social security, according to a new survey.
By comparison, just 9 percent wanted less government intervention and 23 percent said the government is currently doing enough on behalf of Americans' overall well-being, according to the survey conducted in 2018 by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.
In addition, 48 percent of working Americans said they are having a hard time covering daily expenses, according to the OECD, an intergovernmental economic organization that works with 36 countries to track data and trends.

Making ends meet is the leading concern, ahead of becoming ill or disabled (43.5 percent) and losing a job (33.6 percent). Other top concerns included access to adequate housing (25.4 percent) and child care costs (14.6 percent).
In addition, nearly 46 percent of Americans don’t believe they could access public benefits if they needed them, compared to 32.6 percent who think they could and 24 percent who were undecided.
A majority (53 percent) of Americans feel that the government doesn’t take people like themselves into consideration when creating public benefits.
The numbers come as the 'Green New Deal,' introduced by New York Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, was unanimously voted down in the U.S. Senate.

A Democratic Socialist, Ocasio-Cortez had drafted a stimulus package focused on addressing climate change and poverty through a massive federal investment in new technology and infrastructure.
The plan promised to create new, good-paying jobs and would have created new regulations to regulate fossil fuels into extinction.
Supporters have described the proposal as a bold step forward on behalf of Americans, while critics have lambasted it as an absurd socialist overreach that would inject government into every corner of American life.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he brought the motion to the floor in an effort to force Democrats to go on the record with their position on the deal – which he characterizes as a move toward dangerous Big Government intervention.

'I could not be more glad that the American people will have the opportunity to learn precisely where each one of their senators stand on this radical, top-down, socialist makeover of the entire U.S. economy,' McConnell said in a statement earlier this week.
Every 'American taxpayer will get to learn if their senators support saddling our nation with the astronomical cost of this socialist fantasy – tens and tens of trillions of dollars, a tax burden that would be certain to hurt not just wealthy Americans but the middle class as well,' he added.
Democrats in the Senate responded to McConnell's strategy by voting, 'present' – ensuring the package wouldn't get the 60 votes needed to proceed, effectively delaying the debate on climate change until it could be more productive.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
