Ivanka Trump’s lawyer asked for changes to be made to Michael Cohen’s 2017 testimony before Congress in order to distance her from the Trump Tower project in Moscow.
Before President Donald Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen spoke before Congress, his attorney Stephen Ryan had an e-mail exchange with Abbe Lowell, an attorney for Ivanka and Jared Kusher, Vanity Fair revealed late Wednesday.
In the e-mail exchange Lowell asked for Cohen to include statements that cleared Ivanka's name from any deals with Russia.
'Abbe asks for us to affirmatively address in our statement on the 25th,' Ryan’s message to Cohen reportedly said including a list of lines to state in the hearing such as '[Ivanka] was not involved in the backs and forths with FS [Felix Sater] and MC [Michael Cohen]'.

In 2017 Cohen testified before Congress. Then in February he confessed he had lied in that hearing, saying his statements had been reviewed and edited by Trump's attorneys in advance
Other statements included: 'she did not know FS was involved in the possible project in that country', 'she was not in any meetings or calls with people putting it together (esp. from that country),' and 'and maybe that, by then, MC knew she was at least skeptical about him.'
In response Ryan wrote that Cohen would 'do anything your client asks that is accurate, which is not really an issue—but it may be perceived as awkward to go as specific as your requests.'
Later in the e-mail chain, Ryan attached a document that he said Lowell's edits were included.
Despite these requests, Cohen's false testimony before Congress in 2017 didn’t include all these caveats as they determined Cohen speaking so specifically about Ivanka would have come off as suspicious.
In that 2017 testimony Cohen lied about the extent of a Trump Tower Moscow project. Just last month he testified saying his initial 2017 testimony was false and his statements had been reviewed and edited by Trump's attorneys in advance.
'Trump’s personal lawyers reviewed and edited my statement to Congress about the timing of the Moscow Tower negotiations before I gave it,' he said during the hearing.
He also testified under oath that he had briefed members of Trump’s family, including Ivanka, about the Moscow project on 'approximately ten' occasions.
After Cohen revealed his prior testimony was false, lawmakers requested a closed-door hearing with the House Intelligence Committee the following week to review these alleged edits. One of those documents revealed the email exchange between Ryan and Lowell that was seen by Vanity Fair.
Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison following that hearing for crimes including campaign finance violations including paying off women who alleged affairs with Trump.
Trump attorney Jay Sekulow who was responsible for reviewing Cohen’s statements denied vetting any false claims.

'Today’s testimony by Michael Cohen that attorneys for the president edited or changed his statement to Congress to alter the duration of the Trump Tower Moscow negotiations is completely false,' Sekulow said following Cohen's testimony in February.
Ivanka served as the executive vice president of development and acquisition at the Trump Organization and would've been involved in any real estate developments with Russia.
But in an interview earlier this year she claimed she knew 'literally almost nothing' about the plans for a Trump tower in Moscow and negotiations surrounding it that coincided with the Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
Initial documents suggest the Moscow edifice would have included a 'Spa by Ivanka Trump'. Ivanka would have also been given the power to approve of 'all interior design elements of the spa or fitness facilities'.
In November 2015, Ivanka forwarded an e-mail from a Russian weightlifter to Cohen, saying he could help arrange a meeting between Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin to discuss real-estate opportunities in Russia.
Also in 2015 she e-mailed Cohen suggesting an architect who could work on Moscow tower.
A spokesperson for Lowell dismissed those e-mails, saying she was simply passing on an 'unsolicited e-mail' from the weightlifter's wife and she was 'reminding Mr. Cohen that, should an actual deal come to fruition . . . the project, like any other with the Trump name, conform with the highest design and architectural standards.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
