«Breaking News» The Voice UK: Nicole Scherzinger and James Arthur join as guest mentors

Nicole Scherzinger and James Arthur have joined The Voice UK as guest mentors.

Although both stars have a history with rival show X Factor, they will appear on the ITV talent show to help the coaches in The Knockouts round.  

Nicole, 40, will help will.i.am next weekend, whilst James, 31, will be teaming up with Sir Tom Jones.

Years and Years' Olly Alexander will also be on the show to aid coach Jennifer Hudson, whilst Anne-Marie is set to lend Olly Murs a hand.  

Nicole - who was previously a judge on X Factor for four years - said: 'Mentoring young talent has always been my passion and I'm so excited to join this season of The Voice UK as a guest mentor.

'will is an exceptional coach and has incredible musical ears, and I was so pleased he asked me to lend my support to nurture these artists throughout this process.

will added: 'It was great hanging with Nicole. She's family. It's good to be around people that you love and support and vice-versa.

'I think Nicole has so much information and perspective. She's been through what they've been through, she's auditioned before for countless types of gigs.

'From The Pussycat Dolls and got it, to the West End and got it.'

Meanwhile, James - who won X Factor in 2012 and collaborated with last year's victor, Dalton Harris, on his winners single - said: 'It was great working alongside the legend that is Sir Tom Jones and his singers.

'He has a really strong team this year with huge potential ... and hopefully the winner.'

Tom added: 'James was great. We saw eye to eye or ear to ear, if you like, on what we were hearing.

'He always had an opinion but nine times out of 10 it was the same as mine and confirmed my thoughts so we had a very like-minded approach. It was great working with him.'

Nicole and James will join Olly and Anne-Marie in helping the coaches decide which two contestants from each team will progress from The Knockouts to the live semi-final stage.  

Each mentor will accompany the coaches during piano rehearsals and offer guidance to each act before they take to the stage.

James and Nicole's involvement on the show may come as a surprise to X Factor creator Simon Cowell, as there was said to be some friction between the music mogul and Olly Murs, when the star decided to join The Voice.

Last month, Olly revealed that Simon tried to get him to come back to the X Factor to present, but said he wanted to remain loyal to The Voice UK.

Making an appearance on This Morning, the singer, 34, also made his opinions about the ITV show's future overhaul with a celebrity version.

Speaking candidly, he said of Simon asking him back: 'Last year he tried to tease me back and I said to him "I just love The Voice too much."

'When I was presenting [X Factor] The Voice came out, I wasn’t considered as a judge on the X Factor and then it came up that I could be a judge on The Voice so I went for it.'

Adding that he 'wanted to give them [his] loyalty', he added that he 'wouldn't go back' to the show if they had an edition of the show with past winners.

Throwing shade, Olly continued: 'If they are going to take a break with the show I think it’s a good thing to do, I think they need that.

'It does need a little break form what it’s doing but I think Simon has seen that. I love the show, I always have, but I felt that something wasn’t clicking on the show, it needs something different and hopefully this does that.’ 

The Voice UK continues on ITV at 8pm on Saturdays, with The Battles concluding this Saturday, and The Knockouts starting on March 16.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
