«Breaking News» Scrap the HS2, says ex-Treasury chief who signed it off

The HS2 rail line should be scrapped for being too costly, says the former Treasury chief who first signed off its funding.

Lord Macpherson claims the economic benefits of the £56billion project were unlikely to match its rising costs.

The future of the high-speed line is already under threat with Treasury officials carrying out an audit of major projects amid reports its budget has spiralled to £64billion. Downing Street has insisted it will go ahead.

The first leg of the line, from London to Birmingham, has been approved by Parliament, but the next stage to Manchester and Leeds has yet to be signed off

Lord Macpherson, ex-Treasury permanent secretary, said HS2 would now fail a ‘rigorous cost-benefit analysis’. He added: ‘HS2 has always had a low economic return. And it is based on technology which ... is likely to look a little obsolete when it is on stream in the 2030s.’

HS2 Ltd said the line would ‘generate around £92billion in benefits to the UK’.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
