«Breaking News» Peaky Blinders season five: Cillian Murphy and Sam Claflin film political rally scene in Stockport

Peaky Blinders series five airs in the Spring, but Cillian Murphy and Sam Claflin are still busy shooting key scenes as they were pictured in Stockport on Monday.

The production has descended onto the Manchester town this week for a two day shoot which has seen it transformed into 1930s Birmingham.

Cillian, 42, Sam, 32, and a series of extras were seen shooting in the town Plaza where the theatre and cinema has been transformed into Bingley Hall, a former exhibition centre in Birmingham which will be the location for a political rally plot point.

The stars in period costume were seen outside the transformed cinema, while all signs of modern life were expertly hidden by the crew.

Cillian, who plays Thomas Shelby, was pictured in costume outside an Oswald Mosley meeting, with the politician being played by Sam.

The leading character can be seen stopping union leader Jessie Eden, played by Charlie Murphy, getting arrested by police officers.

Meanwhile, new cast member Sam, who is playing politician Oswald Mosley, looked unrecognisable as he sported dark locks and moustache.

The actor wore a navy blue three-piece suit with a white shirt and striped tie, he layered the ensemble with a matching coloured coat.

During the filming, dirt had been thrown over the street to disguise the tarmac and road markings while vintage posters and signs were up in the street.

Transformation: The Greater Manchester town has been transformed into late 1930s Birmingham with period awnings hiding modern shop fronts

One poster outside the venue reveals the storyline, with far right politician Oswald Mosley, who was the MP for Harrow between 1918 and 1924 before becoming leader of the British Union of Fascists in 1932, hosting a rally at Bingley hall.

Surrounding buildings had also been given a makeover by the crew with period awnings covering modern shop fronts.

It's thought around 120 extras are filming scenes in Stockport over the next days, while multiple period cars have been bought in for filming.

While the drama is set in Birmingham, filming has taken place across Manchester in recent months.

Series five is set in the aftermath of the 1929 Wall Street Crash, with creator Steven Knight revealing: '

The story of the Peaky Blinders and of the Shelby family gets woven into the political fabric of Britain and Europe as the 1920s end and the thirties begin.'

Peaky Blinders fans were given their first look at season five in a BBC drama trailer which aired on New Year's Day ahead of an expected Spring 2019 air date.

While the one minute clip featured snippets of Killing Eve, Line of Duty and Luther, it was the brief but explosive tease of Peaky Blinders which has really got fans talking.

Annie Harrison-Baxter will produce the new series, which sees the welcome return of a host of familiar characters following a vicious gang war.

There will also be some new faces joining the cast, including Claflin and Split actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

The drama will also make the big move from BBC Two to BBC One following the huge success of the first four series.

It had been rumoured Peaky Blinders' fifth series could be its last, with Deadline reporting the new series will see the story of the Shelby clan 'come to a conclusion'.

However, the show's creator Knight confirmed in May last year, that the gangster drama will come to a close after the seventh season.

Show creator Steven explained that he's keen to develop two more seasons.

He told Digital Spy: 'My ambition is to make it a story of a family between two wars, so always I've wanted to end it with the first air raid siren in Birmingham in 1939. It'll take three more series [to reach that point].'

There's also been rumours of a big screen outing for the series, as one of the show's director's claimed it is being made into a movie.

Otto Bathurst, who directed three episodes in season one of the gritty gangster drama, said Knight is currently writing a script.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
