«Breaking News» Private citizen is shot dead while investigating the death of Michelle O'Connell in St Augustine

A private citizen who was investigating the suspicious suicide of a sheriff deputy's girlfriend has been shot dead while pursuing the case.

The person, who has not yet been publicly identified, was chasing clues in the 2010 death of Michelle O'Connell when he died inside the World Golf Village gated community in St Augustine, Florida on Thursday, police said.

The dead person's juvenile son found the body, police said at a press conference. The victim identifies with both a male name and female name, so police are withholding identification until they can confirm the proper ID.

Police responded to the report of the body at around 7.30am at the Laterra Condos, which is about a mile into a gated community, said Major Steve Rose, with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Because of the connection to the controversial O'Connell death, the St Johns County Sheriff's Office, which would have had jurisdiction, called in the PCSO, which has taken over the case.

Little has been publicly revealed about the dead individual, including whether police suspect suicide or homicide at this point.

It is unclear whether the dead person was a journalist, a family member of O'Connell, or simply a member of the public who took interest in the case, which drew national attention.

'The deceased person was doing personal research into Michelle O’Connell death. There is no indication he was doing this in any professional capacity,' the PCSO said in a statement on Twitter, which was deleted moments later for unclear reasons.

Banks claimed that he was in another room when he heard a gunshot and rushed in to find O'Connell dead of a gunshot wound to the head, with his service pistol laying at her side.

The death, initially handled by the same department where Banks worked, was ruled a suicide - but O'Connell's family has remained insistent that they believe she was murdered.

Banks has insisted on his innocence and has never been arrested or charged in connection with O'Connell's death.

A fresh investigation by an independent prosecutor's office was ordered by Florida's then Governor Rick Scott through an executive order in October 2014.

Following the independent investigation, Florida State Attorney Jeffrey L. Ashton said in a letter to Scott that 'the evidence does not rise to the level of probable cause that a homicide occurred.'

An independent autopsy commissioned by O'Connell's family indicated that her death was a homicide.

O'Connell's family filed a civil suit against investigators, but a judge dismissed it in March 2018.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
