«Breaking News» Keeley Hawes throws her support behind 'phenomenal' Bodyguard co-star Richard Madden

Keeley Hawes has backed Bodyguard co-star Richard Madden to become the next James Bond when Daniel Craig finally relinquishes the coveted role.

The Scottish actor, 32, is widely tipped to become the seventh incarnation of Bond after Craig completes work on his fifth and final film as the iconic secret agent in 2020.

And Hawes, who starred alongside Madden in writer Jed Mercurio’s award winning Bodyguard, believes he has the right attributes to be an overwhelming success.

Speaking at the Radio Times Covers Party on Wednesday evening, she admitted many scenes in their hit drama were reminiscent of the action-packed sequences that characterise the very best of Bond.

'I said to Richard while we were shooting, "This is like James Bond!"' she recalled. 'I would love to see Richard playing James Bond; I would love that. I think he would be phenomenal.'

Madden is the latest in a long line of actors to be connected with Bond following Craig's decision to give up the role some 15-years after making his debut in Casino Royale.

Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Aidan Turner and James Norton have also been linked with the role, but Madden has emerged as front-runner following his appearance as protection command bodyguard Sergeant David Budd.

Speaking in 2018, the actor - whose found fame as the doomed Robb Stark in Game Of Thrones - admitted he was honoured to be associated with Bond.

'This is what happens with all these shows, like Tom Hiddelston in The Night manager. Then there's the next one. I'm the next one,' he told GQ

'I'm more than flattered to be mentioned, for people to consider putting me in that role. I'm very flattered and thankful. It's a really brilliant thing to be in. I don't want to curse anything by saying anything.'

However Madden may well make another appearance as Budd in the second series of Bodyguard before the Broccoli family make a final decision regarding the next Bond.

A second series is said to be 'very much on the cards,' but Hawes insists hr own character, Home Secretary Julia Montague, will definitely not be returning.

The Conservative politician was dramatically killed in a bomb blast, but fans are still convinced she somehow survived the enormous explosion - despite Hawes confirming her departure on social media.

'Every day I'm surprised by how many people ask me if I'm still alive!' she said. 'It's extraordinary, and completely unexpected.

'I tweeted, "Thanks very much, I had a great time on the show," and (show creator) Jed gave an interview to Radio Times and explained why my character had been killed off, so it wasn't really a case of keeping my mouth shut as it was with Line of Duty, when we were having fun playing the game. It wasn't at all.'

She added: 'We'd been quite frank and honest and open about it, but it seemed to be something that people – people wanted the character to be alive. Which is very flattering, thank you very much!'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
