«Breaking News» Line Of Duty season 5 trailer drops... and teases a MAJOR plot twist

Line Of Duty fans were left both exhilarated and miffed on Sunday night as a trailer for the show's forthcoming fifth season was teased on Twitter by the cast and crew.

While fans were beside themselves to learn that the BBC cop drama is soon to return to screens with a new run of episodes, there was one element to the trailer that appeared to anger them.

A few seconds into the the teaser - which sees Kate Fleming and Steve Arnott back to uncover police corruption for AC-12 - the words 'From The Makers Of Bodyguard' flashes onto the screen.

This did not sit well with long-standing fans of the drama show, who felt this was an insult to the series, which has been on the air since 2012.

While Bodyguard was indeed one of the most popular shows on TV last year, it was a three-episode one-off (although is thought to now be returning after its success) while Line Of Duty is in its fifth run.

One Twitter user posted: 'The only thing that annoys me about the trailer is that is says "from the makers of the Bodyguard"... No! The Bodyguard is from the makers of Line of Duty!'

Another, responding to the above tweet, wrote: 'Totally agree, The Bodyguard was good but Line of Duty lead the way and continues to do so. Great cast, great story lines and I can’t wait!'

'You really don't need to sell it with The Bodyguard's title thrown in, in my opinion, LOD is a better drama!' another person penned.

Someone else agreed: 'Fab... Bodyguard is from the makers of ‘Line of Duty’ though!!!'

Followed by another who typed: 'Now we're sucking on diesel! Although I think #Bodyguard was written by the writer of #LineofDuty gotta stick to the letter of the law, fella.'

Other than this, fans of the show were left thrilled to hear the show would be back soon - despite the fact that the trailer did not provide an air date.

And from the events of the minute-long video, it seems a long-standing and beloved character might be under the microscope.

The bad guys: Other than the possible inside job - which will not be a first for Line Of Duty - actor Stephen Graham will portray Balaclava Man, AKA John Corbett, AC-12's latest person of interest

Vicky McClure returns as DS Fleming, Martin Compston as DS Arnott and Adrian Dunbar as Ted Hastings - the latter seemingly under suspicion by his own team.

After three police officers are killed following a hijack by balaclava-clad men, it's revealed that a police insider was involved.

'Someone's pulling the strings!' says Arnott, as another new officer explains: 'There's a code name. Didn't think it was real. H.'

Suddenly, AC-12 find themselves looking toward their leader Hastings - but this time it's for very different reasons.

Tensions mount: 'You work with someone - you take their word,' Hastings says. 'Until now!' Arnott replies

'This is a chance to crack the highest level corrupt officers,' Fleming says. 'And the top man.'

'You work with someone - you take their word,' Hastings says.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
