«Breaking News» Wetherspoon raises its prices for the FIFTH time in two years - with some drinks now up 50p

Budget-friendly pub Wetherspoon is 'running out of excuses' for raising its food and drink prices for the fifth time in two years.

Some beers, ciders, wines and spirits cost up to 20p more - with critics warning it will drive away customers.

Its popular meal deal range as well as the breakfast menu are also being criticised after some items went up by 20p.

Consumer rights expert Martyn James told the Sun: 'It's getting harder for Wetherspoon to hide behind the usual excuses for yet another price rise.

'Selling food and booze at bargain prices made the company. But price rises on this scale will drive their customers out of the door.'

Prices at Wetherspoon pubs are different across the country.

But the Oxted Inn in Surrey, has seen the price for gourmet burgers with an alcoholic drink go up to £7.75.

The Ultimate Burger has risen by 50p from its early 2017 cost of £7.25.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon told the Sun: 'We believe that we continue to offer excellent value for money meals in our pubs.' 

It comes as wage prices have increased at the chain - which owns 936 pubs across the UK. 

Wages in 2017 went up from £7.25 to £7.40 and in October 2017 jumped to £7.49. 

In March 2018 it was upped to £7.59 and reached £7.65 in October.

The rising wage costs have led to a lower six-month profit at Wetherspoon, it announced in January.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
