Gary Cooper (pictured arriving at Highbury Magistrates' Court today) admitted invading the pitch but denied assaulting Smalling
An Arsenal fan has denied pushing Manchester United player Chris Smalling during a Premier League clash.
Pitch invader Gary Cooper, 30, was arrested during the game at the Emirates Stadium on March 10.
He was caught on camera running onto the field and allegedly shoved the centre back and later charged with common assault.
Cooper, of Chertsey, Surrey, admitted one charge of entering into the playing area during the football match.
But standing in front of Highbury Corner Magistrates Court, Cooper denied a charge of assault by beating.
When asked would a trial date be convenient , Cooper said: 'Not really, I've lost my job over this and it will take me a while to get here.'
Defending, June Grattan said: 'It should be resolved once we see the CCTV. It will not take long.'
Chief magistrate Dani Jayes said: 'There is going to be a trial for this matter, we need to get some paperwork together.

'If you are not here a warrant will be issued for your arrest. The other matter you have pleaded guilty to will be dealt with after the trial.'
Earlier this month he made a grovelling apology to Smalling after confronting the Manchester United defender on the pitch.
Gary Cooper, a cousin of boxing champion Tyson Fury, told MailOnline he was 'deeply ashamed' of the pitch invasion having become 'overwhelmed with emotion' during the match at The Emirates stadium on Sunday.

The 30-year-old decorator faces a life ban from the North London club having been been charged with common assault and going on to the playing area at the Emirates Stadium.
Father-of-two Cooper told Mail Online he wanted to apologise to Smalling, Manchester United and Arsenal saying he had been 'foolish beyond words.'
'I am just so ashamed and have let myself and my family down. What happened was out of character. I am still in shock and feel awful,' he said.
The case is now adjourned until Mr Cooper faces trial at a later date that will be held at the same court.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
