«Breaking News» Piers Morgan is compared to David Brent as he shows off his awkward dad dance moves

He left his co-host Susanna Reid cringing when he awkwardly danced to 50 Cent on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.

And Piers Morgan proved he still had the groove as he shimmied around the studio on Wednesday, celebrating Good Morning Britain getting its highest ever ratings.

The 53-year-old was compared to Ricky Gervais' character David Brent as he showed off his dad dance moves to Susanna and Kate Garraway.

Opening the show, Piers said: 'Good news everybody, the scriptless Good Morning Britain on Monday had it’s highest ever ratings, so thank you.

After poking fun at BBC Breakfast's falling rating, Piers requested GMB bosses to play Kool and The Gang's Celebrate so he could break out the dance moves.

'Can we have the volume up please? Come on everyone, we’re celebrating, the ratings are the highest they’ve ever been,' he said, as Richard Arnold swayed along.

Wiggling his hips, Piers added: 'Thank you to the viewers, we don’t need awards – we get snubbed time and time again by our peer group, you know why? Jealousy.'

Ricky Gervais was famed for creating the David Brent dance, with his character showing off his dancing prowess to the unsuspecting members of staff during a charity dance-off.

And Piers echoed the character when he indulged in a spot of spontaneous 'dad dancing' after a segment featuring Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly's danceathon for Comic Relief on Tuesday morning.

As 50 Cent tune In Da Club blared out, he shouted, 'Pump it up'.

Susanna looked mortified while Piers wiggled his hips and shook his hands, rolling her eyes at the camera.

Charlotte Hawkins was also letting loose, doing some token finger wagging in the background.

Viewers at home were amused, with the likes of former WAG Danielle chiming in on Twitter.

She enthused,' @piersmorgan dad dancing on @GMB this morning has made my day #gopiers', to which Piers replied, 'Never mind @50cent - this was the full $.'

Other viewers enthused: 'GMB @piersmorgan The best thing this morning was Piers Morgan dancing Brilliant !!!'

Another joked: '#GMB my 7 year old daughter watching piers' dancing 'I've never seen a grandpa dance like that'.

A third wrote: 'Dad dancing at it's finest Piers'.

The 53-year-old w...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
