JetBlue has apologized for featuring a woman who fatally shot a New Jersey State Trooper as part of a display for Black History Month.

The airline included an image of Joanne Chesimard in a display at LaGuardia Airport, which sparked outrage online as it was circulated on pro-police websites and Twitter.

In 1973 Chesimard, who was also known as Assata Shakur, and other members of the extremist Black Liberation Army group, opened fired on state troopers during a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike.

'When we learned of concerns regarding one individual, we immediately removed the poster.

'The intention was always to unite our crew members and customers around the importance of Black History Month and we apologize for any offense the poster may have caused.'

Supporters have claimed that Chesimard was framed for the killing and she remains an icon among some in the black liberation movement. She now lives under political asylum in Cuba.

Shakur is listed as one of the FBI’s most wanted terrorists, and her escape remains a bone of contention for law enforcement, who have urged political leaders to pressure Cuban officials to return her to the U.S.

New Jersey State Police said in a statement on Facebook that Joanne Chesimard 'is a fugitive who was tried and convicted of the murder of New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster.'

'We appreciate Jet Blue removing the portrait of Chesimard out of respect for the Foerster family, the men and women of the New Jersey State Police, and all of the men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

'We will never forget the service of Trooper Foerster and remain steadfast and committed in our efforts to bring Chesimard to justice.'

She is also known as Tupac Shakur's 'godmother' and was close friends with the slain rapper's mother Afeni and stepfather Mutulu.

Mutulu was convicted of helping her escape in 1979 and is currently in prison the fatal robbery of a Brinks money truck.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
