Jeremy Corban blasted a prominent Jewish MP who raised concerns over Labour's handling of anti-Semitism, accusing her of a 'breach of trust' after she recorded a meeting with the party leader.
His furious attack on Dame Margaret Hodge today came as the largest Jewish group affiliated to Labour prepared to hold meetings tonight to decide whether to sever ties with the left-wing party after almost a century.
More than 100 backbench MPs have signed an open letter urging the Jewish Labour Movement to retain its links as the bitter civil war over anti-Semitism grew ever more fractious.
Mr Corbyn was heavily criticised by Dame Margaret on Tuesday when she accusing him of failing to show 'zero tolerance' if the offenders are his 'mates'.
She fired a fired a broadside at the embattled party leader, questioning whether he had 'misled' her or been misled himself about the extent of his team's involvement in cases.
In a letter to Dame Margaret Hodge Jeremy Corbyn said her recording of a meeting between them to discuss anti-Semitism was 'a total breach of trust and privacy'
Barking MP Dame Margaret had accused the Labour leader of being soft on anti-Semitism cases if they involved his 'mates'
She said that he had assured her in a meeting last week that his office played 'no part in the complaints process' - which was contradicted by a whistleblower at the weekend - and had recorded the head-to-head.
In a letter to the MP today Mr Corbyn acknowledged that a 'very small group of staff' in his office were asked by the party's governance and legal unit (GLU) to help clear the backlog of cases that had built up.
But he reacted angrily to a suggestion that Dame Margaret had a recording of their meeting, despite an agreement that it would be private.
'I was therefore extremely disappointed to learn on the (BBC Radio 4) Today programme that you have an audio recording of the meeting,' he wrote.
'Neither me nor my staff were informed that you intended to record the meeting, my permission was not sought, nor granted. I consider this to be a total breach of trust and privacy.'
The Jewish labour Movement will hold meetings in London and Manchester tonight to decide whether to disaffiliate from Labour after 99 years.
In response, MPs led by Walthamstow's Stella Creasy signed a letter urging it to remain linked.
It admitted the party had 'let down our Jewish supporters' but said it would 'work to win back your trust, your votes and your voices for our movement.'

The JLM's president is Luciana Breger, the Liverpool MP who left Labour less than three weeks ago after saying it had become 'institutionally anti-Semitic'.
Mr Corbyn wrote his own letter to the group, offering to meet its leaders and admitting action in cases of anti-Semitism had taken place 'too slowly'.
But the JLM’s national secretary Peter Mason told Sky News he did not know which way the decision would go, taking a swipe at the Labour leadership.
‘It seems that at every point the Labour party goes through a crisis, we get the same level of treatment we are seeing even today, which are warm words written on paper that lack any sort of credible, purposeful action,' he said.
‘We have the leadership of the party claiming that strong action will be taken against those who engage in anti-Semitic acts, against those who deny and obfuscate anti-Semitism within the party.
'Yet over the last 48 hours we have seen, quite contrary to that, those in his office are literally intervening to block action being taken.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
