«Breaking News» Emma Bunton admits she felt 'angry' at Geri Horner following her departure from the Spice Girls

Emma Bunton has opened up about Geri Horner's departure from the Spice Girls, admitting she felt 'angry' with her when she abruptly quit the band.

The Spice Girls were at the height of their fame when Geri announced she was leaving the group in 1998. 

Her departure came as a shock to Emma and her fellow bandmates Mel B, Mel C and Victoria Beckham.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Emma said she felt 'angry' after Geri left the group.

'Geri just left. No words. No explanation. Nothing.'

Geri later admitted she left the group after struggling with the bands global fame along with battling depression and an eating disorder.

Such was the interest in Geri's departure that Emma recalled the group meeting her idol Madonna in 1998 who only wanted to hear about the drama behind-the-scenes.

Emma said: 'She just wanted the gossip. There was no way we were going to say anything about Geri. None of us would ever break ranks on that – even for Madonna.'

While there was a few years of distance, Geri later reconciled with the rest of the group and was asked to be godmother to Geri's daughter Bluebell in 2006.

Recalling the group's heyday, Emma said she has no regrets about her time with the Spice Girls and is glad the group never took themselves too seriously.

The mother-of-two revealed she was always supportive of the Spice Girls reuniting for another tour but admitted she felt nervous when tickets first went on sale that no one would buy them.

Victoria is not joining the other four members on their upcoming UK and Ireland tour but Emma insisted none of them begrudge her for it.

She said Victoria has her hands full running her 'fashion empire' and they respect her decision to focus on that.  

While she not be on stage with them, Victoria is supportive of the reunion and shared a message on Instagram wishing the ladies well.

She wrote: 'Being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish my girls so much love and fun as they go back on tour.

'I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!'

The Spice World - 2019 tour kicks off on May 24 in Dublin with dates in Cardiff, Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Bristol and London.

Along with the reunion, Emma is also working on a new solo album called My Happy Place which comes out on April 12. On Friday, she released the second song from the album, Too Many Teardrops.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
