«Breaking News» Wisconsin prankster dressed in panda suit sparks 911 call

A mischievous Wisconsin resident sparked pandemonium in his quiet Muskego neighborhood and triggered a police response last month when he donned a full-body panda suit while dog-sitting for a friend.

The bizarre incident took place on February 22, when the Muskego Police Department said a call came in just before 11.40am reporting ‘a panda bear’ at the front door of a nearby home, which the caller was said to have found ‘suspicious, as panda bears are not native to Wisconsin’.

According to a police blotter entry from that day, officers responded to the S7700 block of Prospect Drive and made contact ‘with the 48 year old panda bear (a Muskego resident in costume)’.

The disguised culprit told the responding officers that he put on the black-and-white Halloween costume to prank the owners of the home who had video surveillance on their front door.

‘I like your style, sir!’ the author of the police blotter wryly remarked.

Officers contacted the homeowners ‘who verified the panda was allowed at the residence’. No charges have been filed.

The wise-cracking police department last week released the 911 call reporting the suspicious panda bear walking outside a neighboring home in the snow, according to CBS58

The emergency dispatcher asks the caller: 'Do you have a description of the person?'

The caller replies with a laugh: 'It's a big teddy bear.'

'It's a big what, I'm sorry?' the 911 dispatcher asks.

'Teddy bear.....Honest to God,' the caller confirms.

'Somebody dressed as a teddy bear?' the 911 center operator inquires.

'Yep,' says the caller.

Molly Salentine, the homeowner who was the intended target of the prank, told CBS58 in an interview that on February 22, she was working late and asked her neighbor to let her dogs out of her house in her absence.

In a phone interview with DailyMail.com on Monday afternoon, the man behind the mask, Rhommer Varilla, said he and Salentine are good friends and have been known to play pranks on one another.

‘My goal was to get caught on their video,’ he explained. ‘I’m sure that they would have laughed, but they would have been surprised.’

Varilla, who is a Columbia Business School-educated technology consultant with a wife and three children, added that he was inspired by his life mantra: making ordinary extraordinary.

The 48-year-old Muskego resident also recounted the moment he turned a corner after wrapping up his prank and was confronted by five police cruisers - an experience he described as 'pretty tense.'

After questioning Varilla at the scene for about 15 minutes and getting his neighbors on the phone, the officers let him go.

'They took the situation very seriously,' said Varilla of the responding cops.

As soon as he reutnred home, Varilla messaged his friend on Facebook to tell her of his ordeal.

‘She thought I was kidding,’ the man said of Salentine with a laugh.

When later she discovered that Varilla did, in fact, dress up as a panda and had police called on him, she got in on the joke.

Salentine posted a photo on her Facebook page, in which she is depicted happily posing up with the fake panda.

In the comments section, Varilla shared a selfie that shows him standing in front of two uniformed police officers who had responded to the 'teddy bear' 911 call. The cops' faces in the image are obscured with cartoon panda heads.

The panda-loving dad also shared another image depicting a serious-looking cartoon panda with the hashtag #pandasmatter on his own Facebook page.

It was not the first time that Varilla has donned the panda outfit for a laugh.

In 2012, he posted a video on YouTube, in which he is seen dancing in the panda suit outside his children's school.

Varilla revealed to DailyMail.com that he sometimes shows up at the bus station to pick up his daughter from school dressed as panda, while his friend and neighbor Molly Salentine dons a banana costume.

Asked if he is plans to use the $125 panda getup again to spread some cheer, Varilla replied: ‘I’m gonna use it as often as I can. I’m gonna get my money’s worth.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
