«Breaking News» Two girls at famed Manhattan public high school insulted black student

Two girls at a Manhattan high school allegedly gave an African-American student a tampon with the words 'n*****s don't have rights' scrawled across it.

The students at Eleanor Roosevelt High School were suspended after the incident, which happened on March 15, was reported to teachers.

One white co-ed and the other student, who was from the Middle East, handed the victim a tampon with the phrase 'n*****s don’t have rights' written on it at the Upper East Side school, New York Daily News reported.

The horrified girl later handed the item to back the students, sources said, but she  didn’t immediately report it to administrators.

Instead, the shaken student told friends who reported it to Eleanor Roosevelt staffers. This led to the suspension of both girls, according to sources.

The incident triggered Eleanor Roosevelt Principal Dimitri Saliani to end classes early on Monday to meet with parents, students and staff for a discussion of the incident and what might have led to it.

Saliani scheduled a larger meeting Tuesday to address the incident and issues of bias and racism at Eleanor Roosevelt, where only three per cent of students are black and 64 per cent of students are white.

The figures are in stark contrast to the overall New York public school system, where black students account for 26 per cent of enrollment and white account for 15 per cent.

Hispanic students comprise 12 per cent of enrollment at Eleanor Roosevelt, despite accounting for more than 40 per cent of the citywide student body.

City Education Department spokeswoman Miranda Barbot said Eleanor Roosevelt officials investigated the incident and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken for the students involved.

She told New York Daily News: 'Principal Saliani sent a school-wide letter and met with families to reaffirm the importance of a safe and supportive school environment.

'We are continuing to provide support to the school community.'

The news of the shocking incident came as protests were held at elite private schools including Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn and Ethical Culture Fieldston School in the Bronx over racist incidents involving students.

City Education Department officials are also struggling to address mounting criticism of the city’s complex admissions processes.

The incident comes amid renewed debate about Bill De Blasio's plan to overhaul admissions at eight elite high schools, which currently admit students based on a single exam.

Data showed that just over 10 per cent of offers to the elite schools this year went to black or Hispanic students, even though they represent roughly 70 per cent of the city’s enrollment.

Under the mayor's plan, the top seven per cent of students citywide would gain admission to a specialized school, scrapping the test entirely.

'That’s why we’re doing something bold here, and we’re saying we’re not going to live by this old system that has perpetuated massive segregation — not just segregation, massive segregation,' De Blasio told WNYC radio on Friday.

The mayor’s comment came as just seven black students were accepted to the new freshman class at Stuyvesant HS, which is considered the leader of the specialized schools.

De Blasio added: 'We are having a really good and honest conversation in New York City about structural racism, about the history that has led to segregation in so many aspects of our society.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
