Even as he skewers his perceived enemies in what he calls the 'fake news' after the release of a summary of the Mueller report, President Donald Trump is expressing sympathy for the toll the probe has taken on former aide Hope Hicks.
Trump is 'upset about what happened to a lot of people in his family, and friends,' said Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who spent some time with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and on the golf course over the weekend when the public got its first glimpse at the contents of the report.
Graham told Axios he feels particularly badly that Hicks was dragged into the investigation.
Hicks, 30, who worked for Trump at the Trump Organization, then became his campaign press secretary and followed him to the White House, was interviewed by Mueller's prosecutors as well as the House Intelligence Committee.

She lawyered up in the process, hiring prominent attorney Robert Trout. However Hicks left the White House on her own terms, getting a public send-off from the president and ultimately landing a job at Fox that reportedly came with a seven-figure pay package.
Trump's comment about Hicks follows a report last week that she will cooperate with the House Judiciary Committee's expansive request for documents – as congressional inquiries and prosecutors in New York and other jurisdictions pick up where Mueller left off.
A second source who was with Trump in Palm Beach over the weekend – when news broke of Attorney General William Barr's letter that Mueller did not find evidence of collusion with the Russian government and did not make a determination on obstruction of justice – told the publication Trump brought up his former campaign chair, Paul Manafort.
Trump brought up Manafort more than once, and spoke about 'how he was treated very unfairly. He said the guy was prosecuted because he worked for me.'

Nadler asked Hicks to provide information about the infamous Trump Tower meeting that included Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya
She also was asked for any information about the proposal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow that would have been the tallest building in Europe
Lawmakers are seeking information about fired National Security Adviser Michael Flynn
Democrats also want any documents about potential firing or resignations of officials including Special Counsel Robert Mueller
Trump on Monday said 'I haven't thought about it' when asked about pardoning anyone. Graham told reporters pardoning Manafort wouldn't be 'very smart.'
Hicks has indicated she will cooperate with Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee who are demanding any diaries or notes about Trump firings, Russia contacts, and Stormy Daniels.
She plans to turn over documents requested by House Judiciary Chairman Jerold Nadler, CNN reported Wednesday.
Nadler recently fired off a letter to Hicks seeking information on a wide range of topics – an indication of her close work with Trump on a variety of topics that panel investigators are girding to probe.
Among the topics is the infamous Trump Tower meeting with Russians. Hicks had a hand in developing a misleading statement that the President Trump drafted after it was first revealed.
After working on Trump's campaign, Hicks became 'director of strategic communications' and communications director at the White House.
She resigned in March 2018 after admitting she sometimes told 'white lies' in her post, and following DailyMail.com's revelation she was dating Rob Porter, Trump's ex-staff secretary who is accused of beating both his ex-wives.
Trump gave her a hero's send-off when she left, and she nabbed a job as chief communications officer for Fox, parent company of Fox News and other Rupert Murdoch holdings.
She likely earned a pay package of at least $1 million, a Fox executive told Politico when she got the job.
Democrats hit Hicks with a request seeking 'any personal or work diary, journal or other book containing notes, a record or a description of daily events' that they referenced in a series of questions.
She was among 81 Trump associates being asked for information.
Among the topics they asked her about were: The Trump Tower meeting with Russians; the Moscow tower project Michael Cohen was negotiating during the campaign; former national security advisor Mike Flynn's meetings contacts with Russians; Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey; and possible firings or resignation of Robert Mueller or deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein.
They also asked about possible pardons for former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, and Flynn.
Hicks, who was cognizant of a variety of scheduling matters during the campaign, also got asked about any Russia contacts by top Trump associates.
Nadler also asked for information about any payments to 'any person' by Michael Cohen's or the LLC he set up called Essential Consultants. That would would include any information about porn star Stormy Daniels, though she wasn't named specifically.
She met with Robert Mueller's investigators before she left the White House.

Trump is ‘upset about what happened to a lot...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
