«Breaking News» Size eight biscuit addict reveals how she stays so slim - and it's all down to her genes

An entrepreneur who hides secret stashes of biscuits around her dress shop and in her bedside table has revealed how she manages to keep her slim figure, despite doing no exercise.

Ria Carroll, 30, from Essex, was filmed around the clock for Channel 4's The Secret Lives of Slim People in a bid to discover exactly how she's able to maintain her slim 9.4 stone figure.

With cameras filming her every move for last night's show, viewers watched as she devoured pizza, countless takeaways and snacked on biscuits all day.

Despite her bad habits, experts revealed that she can eat what she wants because she's genetically predisposed to staying thin.

Ria's lifestyle was examined in detail on last night's episode of The Secret Lives of Slim People.

Her parents were amazed that she never gains weight, and said they don't know where she puts it all.

In addition to her love for biscuits, they revealed that Ria either eats out or orders takeaway every single day.

Father George joked: 'We do laugh sometimes and say one of these days you're going to wake up and be 17 or 18 stone because it's caught up with you.'

During the show, Ria revealed that she eats breakfast in bed and keeps her beloved biscuits in her bedside table for snacking purposes.

Ria's daily menu

Breakfast: Biscuits and cream cheese bagel, eaten in bed

Lunch: Pizza or chicken club sandwich

Dinner: Takeaway pizza

Snacks: Biscuits

She even keeps biscuit tins hidden around her dress shop so that the snacks are always close by.

And she avoids doing any exercise, with her parents driving her to work, despite it being only a 10 minute walk from her house.

After watching the camera footage of Ria's daily life, scientist Amanda Ursell was baffled, revealing that Ria eats well over the recommended 2,000 calories per day, scoffing 2,800.

As Ria has a habit of sharing her meals, presenter Sabina Grant wondered if it could account for a form of portion control.

But Amanda was not so sure, and admitted she was stunned by Ria's diet and figure: 'She is such an interesting lady. She eats with friends, so she shares her food. She has more calories than she needs.'

Professor Sadar Farooqi, from the Wellcome Trust - MRc Institute of Metabolic Science Addenbrookes Hospital, in Cambridge, revealed that a recent study has identified that some people are biologically predisposed to being slim.

'What we decided to do was try to find people who are really thin but clinically are well,' she said.

By studying 3,000 people, Professor Farooqi was able to identify that genes help to regulate weight and allow people to stay thin.

Professor Sadaf Farooqi revealed that Ria's slim figure may be down to her genetics and points to a recent study that suggests some people are just more disposed to put on weight than others

She explained: 'What we see is thinness is highly heritable, and runs in families.'

This may seem like common sense, but Professor Farooqi went on to say that its' the first time there's been scientific evidence to back up the idea.

She went on: 'There are some genes that predispose people to gaining weight and some people who struggle with their weight have more of those genes.'

And Ria revealed that her parents have always been slim, as were her grandparents, meaning that she has perhaps been lucky enough to inherit their genetic disposition.

She said she would be tucking into a pizza to celebrate the news.

Viewers were in awe of Ria's slim figure, and took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one commenting: 'How depressing is 'The Secret Lives of Slim People' watching people eat and eat, no exercise and still slim.'

'Watching Secret Lives of Slim People. My people!' Another wrote,'Nice to see something positive about weight instead of obesity, and reassuring to find we're not all anorexic or freaky eaters.'

Viewers were riveted by the show, with some emphasizing with Ria, and others reacting with envy about her slim figure

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
