«Breaking News» Police arrest man behind the 'heinous assault' of a 78-year-old woman on the subway

Police have arrested the suspect caught on camera repeatedly punching and kicking an elderly woman in the face and body  on the New York subway. 


The horrific incident took place on March 10 around 3.10am at the Nereid Ave Station in the Bronx on a northbound 2 train, and video of it surfaced on social media. 


The 78-year-old victim in the attack seemed to do nothing to provoke the merciless assault where she cowers as the man hits her.  Other passengers on the train record the incident but fail to intervene.   


On Saturday NYPD Chief Dermot F. Shea posted the assailant's image on Twitter announcing the the suspect was apprehended and is in police custody. 


His name has not been released yet.

He added that the victim was treated in a hospital for her injuries and released and is 'getting the care, advocacy and support needed'.


'Thank you to the worldwide community for the tremendous assistance,' he added. 


The arrest comes one day after NYPD posted video of the suspect asking for help in identifying the assailant. 


In the shocking video the man is seen hitting the woman blow after blow as she tries to protect her face. 


The man can be heard saying 'Who the f**k you was talking to' as he finished his brutal assault.


One female passenger can be heard saying 'Excuse me' to the man but he walks off the train.

He got off at the 238th Street/Nereid Avenue stop and fled on foot. The woman was left in her seat cradling her head in her hands. 


Before he left he addressed the people filming saying: 'Worldstar that my n****r'  in reference to the social media page that is full of violent videos.


Police weren’t notified until the train arrived at the next and last stop, at Wakefield-241st Street station, when a bystander approached an officer in the station. 


Police said 78-year-old woman rode the train one more northbound stop and exited at 241st Street station where she was met by first responders.


She suffered bleeding and swelling with cuts to the face.

Passengers recorded the incident and could be heard saying 'Oh no' as the man carried out the attack but no one intervened as he kicked and punched her on the train

The video was first posted on Twitter by a user named @BKLYNRELL1 and hundreds of social media users expressed their outrage at the attack.


The user who first posted it tweeted: 'He’s crazy that’s somebody grandmother. Rt and find this a**hole.'


He later wrote: 'For everybody asking me if this is my video. No and if I was there it was not going down like that. He was not getting away.'


Another user called Kori James wrote: 'All i see is my grandma and it infuriates me.' 


Another person wrote: 'WTF?! No one helped her during or after?! I KNOW I raised my sons better than that if they come across this situation!.'


Many other social media users expressed their fury that some of the passengers recorded the incident and did nothing to help the victim.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
