Over 1,500 exotic turtles worth £65,626 were found wrapped in duct tape and packed in suitcases at Manila airport after being smuggled from Hong Kong.

The creatures were discovered squirming in four bags when they were run through the X-ray machine at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The bags were owned by one passenger travelling from Hong Kong and included star, redfoot and sulcata tortoises as well as red-eared terrapins worth 4.5 million Philippine peso (£65,623) on the black market.

The Filipino traveller who owned the bags left them unclaimed in the arrivals area, but could face a prison sentence of one to two years or a fine of between £291 and £2,916.

The 1,529 live animals were turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources' Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Unit, the authorities said.

Convictions for the illegal trading of wildlife are punishable by a prison sentence of up to two years and a fine of up to 200,000 pesos (£3,000).

In 2018, Philippine authorities turned over a total of 560 wildlife and endangered species, including 250 geckos and 254 corals smuggled through air parcels, baggage and shipments.

The airport has also apprehended 63 iguanas, chameleons and bearded dragons this year.

The reptiles were turned over by the Bureau of Customs NAIA to the Philippine Department of Environment and Natural Resources Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Unit.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
