A Navy veteran who gouged his neighbor's dog's eye out and allegedly killed a second with a baseball bat has been sentenced to more than nine years in jail.
David C. Herbert, 37, a former Navy corpsman was sentenced Friday for physically abusing his neighbors dogs using inhumane methods including acid and poison.
Herbert was convicted last August on six counts of animal cruelty, one count of burglary and four misdemeanor counts of vandalism for harming two separate families' dogs, one of which remains missing.

Authorities say Herbert targeted next-door neighbors in Oceanside in 2017, slashing their tires and poisoning or burning their dogs with chemicals.

This forced them to flee in fear of their safety.
A new family moved in a month later, and within two days their Golden retriever, Lala, had disappeared and is presumed dead.
Police say they found blood in Herbert's car and on a baseball bat belonging to him.
Herbert denies murder and says the dog jumped into his car and then ran off as he was driving to a shelter.
Michelle Plaketta, the owner of the dog, said in court that her daughter 'doesn't have a best friend anymore,' the San Diego Tribune reports.

'How do you explain to a 4-year-old that a human being gets to be so cruel?' Morales reportedly said in the courtroom.
Police said Herbert's computer showed searches for 'How to get a dog to drink antifreeze.'
In his defense, Herbert's lawyer said his client has 'major depressive disorder,' according to court records.
He was jailed for more than nine years and fined $10,000.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
