A New York man is facing charges after he allegedly trafficked vulnerable sandbar sharks and kept them in an above-ground pool at his home.
Joshua Seguine, 38, of LaGrangeville in Dutchess County, is charged with illegal commercialization of fish, shellfish, crustaceans and wildlife for the alleged illegal possession with intent to sell the protected species.
The arrest follows a July 2017 investigation in which Seguine was allegedly found in possession of five undersized sharks in the back of his truck, according to a release by the New York Attorney General's office.
Law enforcement say when they and marine biologists searched his home, they found seven live sharks in an above-ground pool.
The sharks were identified as sandbar sharks, the possession of which is prohibited in New York state without a special license.
Investigators also found two dead leopard sharks, one dead hammerhead shark and the snout of an endangered smalltooth sawfish, according to the attorney general's office.

The surviving sharks were examined by biologists from the Long Island Aquarium and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium on Coney Island.
They were later moved to the New York Aquarium.
Officials said Seguine was operating under the title Aquatic Apex Life LLC, and used the website MonsterFishKeepers.com to sell sharks as recently as June 29, 2017.
The cost to legally acquire a sandbar shark is about $11,500.

Seguine appeared in court in the Town of LaGrange Justice Court and was released on parole. He’s scheduled to re-appear in court on April 16.
'The trafficking of protected species is both unlawful and harmful to these vulnerable creatures,' Attorney General Letitia James said.
'This individual is charged with knowingly putting these endangered species in harm's way in an effort to line his own pockets.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
