«Breaking News» Love Island pays tribute to Mike Thalassitis after he is found dead aged 26

Love Island has shared an official statement after Mike Thalassitis was found dead aged 26 on Saturday. 

The hit ITV2 dating show revealed it was 'shocked and saddened' after the former footballer was discovered in woodland near his Essex home, his manager confirmed.

In an official statement to MailOnline, a representative for Love Island said: 'Everyone at ITV2 and Love Island are shocked and saddened by this terrible news.

'Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mike’s family and friends at this very sad time.'

Since the tragic news, tributes have since poured in for the former League One footballer from his reality television co-stars. 

Deeply saddened by the news, Love Island host Caroline Flack praised the late star as a 'total gentleman' as she accompanied her words with a fun photograph of them both holding balloons which had pictures of each other on them.

She wrote: 'Mike... you were a total gentleman... I won’t forget that ... it’s so sad ...you will be missed. RIP. ❤️.'  

Voiceover star Iain Stirling could also be seen lingering behind Mike in the picture which appears to be captured during the Love Island 2017 wrap party. 

Social media was awash with tributes from the likes of his former flame Tyla Carr as well as his Love Island co-stars Sam Gowland, Gabby Allen and Marcel Somerville. 

Tyla, 26, who was partnered up with Mike on Love Island two years ago, shared generous words to pay tribute to her ex as she gave her love to his extended family and friends.

She tweeted: 'I can't believe the call I've just had. Mike, you were loved by all of the Love island family. You'll be missed so much. All my love goes out to your friends and family. Shocked.'

Sam, who struck up a friendship with Mike after they were dumped from the Mallorcan villa and brought back into the show, shared a throwback picture of the two of them with touching words about his 'lifelong mate'.

He penned: 'Absolutely lost for words not only made a friend in the villa but made a mate for life on the outside to !!! Absolutely devastated @mike_thala R.I.P my mate ❤️.'

Pals: Meanwhile, Sam Gowland, who struck up a friendship with Mike after they were dumped from the villa and then brought back later on, shared a heartbreaking throwback picture

Dom Lever put aside his differences with love rival Mike as he joined his new wife Jessica in writing sweet tributes after learning of the news.

He commented: 'I’m shocked at the news!! me and @MikeThalassitis may not have seen eye to eye but he was a top guy.' 

Jessica added: 'In complete shock, was lucky enough to get to know Mike, he was the loveliest guy. My heart breaks for his family.' 

Another co-star, Gabby wrote: 'Such a kind genuine heart you had. Goodnight lovely.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
