«Breaking News» London is hit by yet another stabbing death as man in his mid-20s dies from knife wounds

Police officers fought in vain to save Britain's latest stabbing victim, pleading with the dying man 'My friend. Can you hear me? Talk to me' as he lay on the street in Leyton, east London.

The young man became the 14th victim of Britain horrifying epidemic of deadly knife crime in just 16 days.

The victim, aged in his 20s and named locally as Carlos Rodriguez, was said to have been stabbed six times including once in the neck.

Suzana Ansar, 37, told The Sun: 'He was running down the street with no shoes on, they attacked him in his home and he had run away before he collapsed.

Despite frantic efforts by police, and witnesses who rushed to bring blankets to the injured man, he died at the scene in East Leyton at around 5.10pm.

Within hours of his death, the 22-year-old victim of a knife attack in Oxford on February 27 died in the John Radcliffe hospital.

Their deaths are the latest in a fortnight of bloodshed on Britain's streets which has brought new political pressure on the government following attacks on two 17-year-olds last weekend.

Explorer Scout Jodie Chesney was stabbed to death from behind in a random and unprovoked attack as she sat with her boyfriend and three friends in a park in Harold Hill.

And an A-star pupil of Manchester Grammar School, Yousef Makki, was killed in a leafy Cheshire suburb. Two 17-year-old have been arrested and charged in connection with his murder.

On Wednesday night a 14-year-old schoolgirl survived being stabbed in the neck after being set upon by more than a dozen yobs in Coventry.

One witness said: 'There were around 15 kids all on this one girl. They were kicking her before one stabbed her.

'She had injuries to her neck and hand. People were panicking because there was so much blood coming from her neck.'

Last night a 16-year-old boy became the second person to be charged with the murder of 23-year-old apprentice engineer Joshua Boadu, who was brutally stabbed to death in Bermondsey last June.

And hours earlier a Guildford schoolboy had to be taken to hospital after reportedly being stabbed with scissors by a 15-year-old fellow pupil at a the George Abbot School, a comprehensive academy.

Amid the spate of stabbings the Prime Minister claimed there was 'no direct correlation' between police numbers and certain crimes, but Met Commissioner Cressida Dick contradicted her in a radio interview and Labour are demanding 10,000 extra police on the streets.

Tonight as the young man in Leyton lay dying officers cut away his clothes and attempted to stem the flow of blood before paramedics arrived.

The man, who was later pronounced dead at the scene, is believed to have been knifed several times.

Local residents in the Leyton Street called for help as the victim fell to the ground, his face wedged close to a brick wall.

Neighbours produced a red cushion to rest his head as officers used scissors to cut away his clothes.

One officer was heard to say as he cut away the trousers: 'He's been stabbed in the leg too.'

As blood poured out of the victim's body a bystander screamed: 'Oh my god.' The officer begged the victim to stay awake at one stage pleading: 'My friend. Mate, mate, mate, talk to me. Can you hear me.'

Another officer says: 'Are you with me? No, he's going.'

Within minutes paramedics arrived and took over giving him oxygen and attempted to save his life. The officer could be heard desperately urging the victim to 'stay with me' as the ambulance arrived and paramedics took over.

It is believed the victim may have been stabbed to death close to his home.

One resident of North Birkbeck Road told how she saw the victim's body being covered by a sheet.

She said: 'It was terrible. The body was face-down and he was dead.

'It is so sad that a young life has been taken. Yet another stabbing! What is going on? Who is going to do something?'

Another resident said : 'My thoughts are with that poor man who is been killed and his family.'

The air ambulance landed on an area of parkland beside the road.

In a statement, Scotland Yard said: 'Police are in the process of informing his next of kin. No arrests have been made. A crime scene remains in place. Enquiries continue. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Formal identification awaits. Enquiries continue at the scene.

'The Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating and appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information concerning this incident is urge to call police via 101 quoting CAD 5145/6 March or Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.'

The man's death is thought to be the 21st murder in the capital so far this year.

Senior Labour politicians, including police and crime commissioners, have written to the Prime Minister urging her to put 10,000 police officers back on the streets.

The joint letter, also signed by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, said: 'There is not a town or city across the UK which hasn't been touched by the outbreak of serious youth violence.'

It said nationwide there had been a 93 per cent rise in children under 16 being stabbed since 2013, taking knife crime to 'the highest level since records began'.

'This is a national crisis and it requires leadership from the top of government,' the letter added.

It called on the Prime Minister to 'drop this dangerous delusion' that police cuts were not correlated with certain crimes.

The letter called on Mrs May to convene the COBRA committee, put 10,000 police officers back on the streets and rebuild Sure Start and youth services.

At the weekend two 17-year-olds, Jodie Chesney and Yousef Makki, were killed in separate stabbings in London and Greater Manchester.

In Birmingham three teenagers died in the space of 12 days last month.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson has said the military would be 'ready to respond' if asked to help play a part in tackling knife crime.

But Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Sir Stephen House said he did not believe the Army should be called in.

'I think it would cause more alarm and concern than anything else,' he told the London Assembly police and crime committee.

Mrs May, who was home secretary from 2010 to 2016, argued earlier this week that there was 'no direct correlation between certain crimes and police numbers'.

But a string of senior figures in policing have lined up to dispute her assertion.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Javid said: 'I think police resources are very important to deal with this. We've got to do everything we can.

'I'm absolutely committed to working with the police in doing this. We have to listen to them when they talk about resources.'

The Home Secretary also said it was important for the Government to give police 'more confidence' over the use of stop-and-search powers.

Mrs May introduced reforms in 2014 to ensure stop and search was used in a more targeted way, following criticism that the tactics unfairly focused on black and minority ethnic individuals.

At Prime Minister's Questions, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn claimed the Prime Minister was trying to keep communities safe 'on the cheap'.

He said: 'Does the Prime Minister now regret cuts in police numbers and will she undertake that under this review they will be restored to the level they were formerly at?'

Mrs May, who is to host a summit on knife crime, said the Government is putting more resources into policing.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
