A Nebraska farmer is being hailed as a hero for trying to save a driver stuck in the devastating floods that are the worst the state has experienced in 50 years.
Columbus farmer James Wilke, 50, headed out early on Thursday morning to help the driver after he was called to assist emergency responders.
But his massive tractor caused a bridge over the Shell Creek to collapse, sending Wilke down the flooded creek, a family friend said in a Friday Facebook post.
'James' body was recovered later in the afternoon along the creek bed close to their home,' said Jodi Hefti in the post. 'Those who know James know it was his way of telling his wife, family and friends goodbye and that he is 'home'.'

Wilke is the only reported casualty of the devastating floods that were a result of the heavy snowfall that hit the Midwest in the last few weeks
Wilke's cousin, Paul Wilke, was eventually able to save the stranded driver after his cousin was swept away.
'He was always the first to go help somebody,' Paul explained to the Omaha World-Herald.'He was a person who wouldn't just talk about making things better. He would do it.'
Hefti added: 'Not all HEROES wear capes or uniforms. I know a TRUE HERO who wore a T-shirt, blue jeans, work boots and drove a John Deer Tractor.'
Wilke is the only reported casualty of the devastating floods that were a result of the heavy snowfall that hit the Midwest in the last few weeks. Two other men are said to be missing and 30-year-old Scott E. Goodman is believed to have been swept away by harsh waters near Norfolk, the Norfolk Daily News reports.

Governor Pete Ricketts issued a state of emergency on Tuesday. On Friday he said at a press conference: 'This is probably the most widespread flooding damage we've had in the last half-century.'
Ricketts and Unicameral Speaker Jim Scheer surveyed the historic flooding in various parts of northeast Nebraska on Friday, according to a news release from the governor's office.
'Nebraskans looking to support response efforts should contact their local emergency manager and the Nebraska Red Cross,' the release added.

A few hours later, Ricketts' office released another statement directing the Nebraska State Patrol to temporarily waive the truck size requirements in a move to get more support.
'This will help move materials more efficiently around the state as we work together to respond to the impacts of the flooding and severe weather.'
Rescue efforts in eastern Nebraska were hampered by reports of levee breaches and washouts of bridges and roads, including part of Nebraska Highway 92, leading in and out of southwest Omaha.
Authorities confirmed that a bridge on that highway that crosses the Elkhorn River had been washed out Saturday.

Thousands of people have been urged to evacuate along eastern Nebraska rivers
In Freemont, west of Omaha, the Dodge County Sheriff's Office issued a mandatory evacuation for some residents after floodwaters broke through a levee along the Platte River. And in Mills County, Iowa, authorities ordered people in some rural areas to evacuate after the Missouri River overtopped levees.
A GoFundMe has been launched to help save Nebraskan farmer John Carroll's 250 San Clemente Island Goats. It has raised just under $6,000 of its 10,000 goal.
'The goat’s food source has been destroyed or contaminated. Some of the goats will need medical care, medication & other supplies due to the contaminated water, stress, and evacuation,' the post said. 'The fencing that contained them has been destroyed. The farm was not spared. There is so much work that needs to be done before they can return to the farm.'
Carroll took to his own Twitter so offer his thanks at all the help he was getting to save the goats.
'Together, we spent HOURS in frigid water rescuing our beloved San Clemente Goats,' he said. Thank you everyone who reached out. For now, we rest our weary heads.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
