«Breaking News» Chicago assistant state's attorney says: 'We didn't exonerate' Jussie Smollett

The first assistant state's attorney for Chicago has said of the decision to drop all charges against Empire star Jussie Smollet, 'We didn't exonerate him.'

Joe Magats, who made the final call not to pursue the charges, said the decision was made because Smollett agreed to perform community service and to forfeit his $10,000 bond to the city of Chicago.

'Here's the thing, we work to prioritize violent crime and the drivers of violent crime,' Magats said.

'Public safety is our number one priority. I don't see Jussie Smollett as a threat to public safety.'

Smollett has said he was truthful throughout the process of being accused of faking a hate crime and sending himself a fraudulent threat through the mail, and continued to deny any wrongdoing.

Magats said said the police investigation did not appear problematic, and he saw no problem with the evidence against Smollett, the New York Times reported.

'We stand behind the investigation, we stand behind the decision to charge him and we stand behind the charges in the case,' Magats said.

'The mere fact that it was disposed of in an alternative manner does not mean that there were any problems or infirmities in the case or the evidence.'

On Tuesday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the sudden decision to drop the charges proved there is 'one set of rules for the powerful and influential'.

He and Johnson were blindsided by the announcement which they learned of while attending a police academy graduation ceremony.

'Without a doubt this is a whitewash of justice and sends a clear message that if you are in a position of influence and power, you'll be treated one way.

'It is wrong,' Mayor Emanuel said.

The judge in the case sealed the record of the proceedings so the evidence presented to the grand jury which indicted Smollett on 16 counts associated with allegedly filing a false police report will not be made public through the courts.

Smollett faced 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct before the case was dropped by prosecutors on Tuesday.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
