«Breaking News» Bikini barista coffee shop in California has license revoked

A coffee shop in California had its license revoked because of its provocative dress code for staff.

The controversial 'Bottoms Up' Espresso kiosk secured its American Canyon location last December.

But now city council members voted unanimously to revoke its business license after critics argued that the 'bikini barista' coffee shop was operating more like an adult business than a café.

Officials said that they received complaints about the servers’ outfits following the store’s opening, with Instagram posts showing them wearing bikinis, underwear and revealing lace negligee.

Opponents of the kiosk argued that it is an adult entertainment business, and operates more a strip club than a coffee shop when it comes to zoning rules, Vallejo Times-Herald reported.

This prompted a community director to speak with the owner back in January in the hope of finding a solution.

Community director Brent Cooper told Vallejo Times-Herald : 'I met with one of the owners on January  4, 2019 who informed me that he intends to require the employees at the American Canyon store to wear costumes that are as revealing as the costumes worn on staff at other Bottoms Up Espresso stores.'

According to American Canyon city code, employees are obliged to cover 'specific anatomical areas,' which include the butt, breast and pubic region.

Otherwise a business could then be classified an adult-entertainment business.

In 2011, Bottoms Up Espresso opened its first location in Modesto, California and it now has a number of franchises in the San Francisco Bay area.

Nate Wilson, owner of Bottoms Up, told Fox News that he believed that the 'city has gone beyond the law' with its ruling.

He said the company will 'move on from that location' irrespective of the outcome.

Wilson said: 'We have decided to move on from that location due to the fact the city will waste a bunch of taxpayers' money to fight us in court, where if we wanted to make a point would win.

'We do not fall into 'adult entertainment' as they suggest.

'The license was revoked before we even opened or went to any appeals.

'The city is acting beyond their powers and shows you how even small government abuses their powers.'

He told Fox News there are at least a dozen other locations under development in the Sacremento area, along with more in Arizona.

The company's website claimed it opened its second store within the first year due to changes made to a classic 'bikini barista' model.

In its 'About Us' section it claims: 'Custom, high-quality drinks, creative names and sexy baristas make up our unique concept.

'Yet, our main focus is customer service. Our baristas are trained to engage with customers, while they create delicious drinks that are unique to the business.'

The company wrote a post on Facebook saying it was withdrawing from the American Canyon location and wished customers a 'Happy International Womens Day' on Friday

City officials presented the firm with a city notice to revoke their business license.

Its reasoning was based on an investigation which found that 'information had not been included in the business license application, including that the business is an adult entertainment business as defined in the city municipal code.'

In the letter to the owners, Cooper said that the city’s own investigation showed the business was less a 'coffee shop' as per its business license application, than an adult entertainment business, Vallejo Times-Herald reported.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
