Congress freshman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came under fire once again on Tuesday after claiming that the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan following 9/11 was not only 'disastrous and wrong' - it was 'a mistake'.
The New York Representative took to Twitter to defend fellow freshman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota for her stance questioning the U.S.' relationship with Israel, and drew a parallel to the few critics of the war in Afghanistan.
AOC compared Rep. Omar to former Texas Rep. Barbara Lee who opposed the war in Afghanistan in 2001.
'I remember a time when it was "unacceptable" to question the Iraq War,' AOC tweeted on Monday.
'All of Congress was wrong, including both GOP & Dem Part, and led my generation into a disastrous + wrong war that virtually all would come to regret, except for the one member who stood up: Barbara Lee,' she added.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sparked outrage for tweeting that the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan following 9/11 was 'a mistake' on Monday
She defended her colleague Minnesota Rep Ilhan Omar's criticism of the U.S. relationship with Israel on Monday, drawing a comparison to the few opponents of the War on Terror post 9/11
She then voiced her own opinion on the war in Afghanistan against the al-Qaeda saying 'I think that our decision to enter unlimited engagement in Afghanistan...was a mistake'
However, her tweet criticizing the War on Terror and the response to the deadly 2001 attack that scarred the nation and claimed nearly 3,000 lives, sparked outrage.
At first she tweeted about the war in Iraq then corrected herself clarifying she meant Afghanistan.
'But honestly we shouldn’t have been in either, and we should end the AUMF now while we’re at it,' she added, calling for the end of the Prioritization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists.
When asked what she believed the U.S. should have done post 9/11 regarding Afghanistan she replied saying invasion was a mistake.
She made the comments on Monday as she was doubling down on her defense of fellow Congress freshman Ilan Omar of Minnesota
The tweet that started it all: AOC shared her poignant views on Afghanistan when she responded to this tweet on the importance of questioning and debating U.S. foreign policy
'I think that our decision to enter unlimited engagement in Afghanistan, particularly through the AUMF + Congress' abdication of power + decision-making w/ passage of the AUMF, was a mistake,' she tweeted on Monday.
'Other options: targeting the network itself, limited engagement, non-intervention,' she added.
But her comments stirred outrage many saying that the U.S. had to retaliate after al-Qaeda terrorist hijackers flew two planes into the Twin Towers marking the deadliest terror attack in human history.
What followed was the launch of the War on Terror and invasion of Afghanistan in an effort to snuff out the Taliban.
'What does non intervention mean? Do you mean us doing nothing? Do you think that’s the correct course of action after a massive terrorist attack on our soil?' one angry Twitter user asked.
Her comments sparked outrage on Twitter, with users asking how the U.S. could have targeted al-Qaeda following 9/11 if not invading Afghanistan
AOC responded saying the nation could have attacked al-Qaeda without invading Afghanistan
AOC defended her comments saying the U.S. could have not invaded 'an entire nation without end'.
'Doesn't mean "do nothing," it means perhaps we could have leaned more on the larger role of other agencies (intelligence, state dept, diplomatic teams, etc) before Congress decided to invade a nation without a concrete end plan,' she added.
Still many were not convinced and lashed out at the Democratic-Socialist online.
One user asked: 'How exactly does one target al Queda without entering Afghanistan?'
'B***h what? WE had every right to go into Afghanistan after they refused to extradite Sadam to the U.S., after he funded the Islamic terrorists that cowardly attacked our country on 9/11,' one Twitter user wrote.
'Madam you were 10 years old when this was decided upon. NYC was in a depressed after towers came down,' (sic) another frustrated Twitter user noted.
'Afghanistan was never going to be easy but it was necessary. There's been endless debate on how involved U.S. should be in that war,' another reasoned.
Her take on the War on Terror sparked outrage on Twitter with many users saying the invasion was necessary in light of the 9/11 attack that claimed nearly 3,000 lives
CNN's Jake Tapper also asked for clarification on her views, to which she replied suggested the U.S. should have targeted al-Qaeda with 'limited engagement and nonintervention'
The backlash: Twitter users voiced their outrage following her tweets saying 'we had every right to go into Afghanistan'
These users expressed their frustration with AOC, pointing that she represents New York and should be more sensitive to the thousands of lives lost in the city in the 9/11 attack
'The Iraq war was not wrong! I suppose you would have just allowed Saddam to continue violating UN resolution after UN resolution and killing his own people? Naive you are,' another Twitter user added.
'You were barely 10 years old when 9/11 happened. What the hell do you know about that era and what gives you the right to judge what came after that. Unbelievably spoiled and self centered. How did you get elected!' another lashed out.
'How about you walk into a firehouse that’s in your district, look at the memorials and names on the walls of those lost at the hands of the Taliban and al Qaeda, and tell them your thoughts on no AUMF and nonintervention?' one Twitter user challenged.
'Dude. New York Representative thinks we should have shrugged off 3000 and counting New Yorkers who were murdered. It kinda fits with her love of socialism and lack of awe for the miracle of human life. But...maybe New Yorkers should pick someone who cares,' one critic wrote.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
