Diane Abbott's local Labour branch has been dragged into a new anti-Semitism row
Diane Abbott's local Labour branch has been dragged into a new anti-Semitism row after saying it was a 'scandal' to describe the party as racist.
The Hackney North and Stoke Newington Constituency Labour Party (CLP) voted in favour of a measure on Thursday night blasting the idea that Jeremy Corbyn's party was 'institutionally anti-Semitic'.
It came the day after Mr Corbyn's friend and ally Chris Williamson was suspended for saying Labour had been 'too apologetic' about anti-Jewish abuse claims, prompting uproar from MPs.
The seat, which is home to the country’s largest ultra-orthodox Jewish community, voted 45 to 35 in favour of the motion. Miss Abbott did not speak out against it.
Those opposed to it were left in tears, the Jewish Chronicle reported.
It said the CLP 'notes with increasing alarm the acceptance of the 'fact' that the Labour Party is 'institutionally anti-Semitic' by not only the media, but the right wing of the PLP (Parliamentary Labour Party).
'It is distracting people's attention away from the calamitous consequences of the Tory government's continuing austerity and its disastrous handling of the Brexit issue as it nears the 29 March deadline.
'It is a scandal that we are allowing ourselves to be branded as a racist party.'
Derby North's Chris Williamson was suspended from Labour on Wednesday as the party investigates his recent behaviour, following pressure from other MPs
It called on Labour's ruling National Executive Committee (NEC) to immediately implement trigger ballot procedures in all constituencies in order to allow members to decide on the future of their MPs.
'It is unacceptable to allow our representatives to slander the party and its members whilst we put them into office,' the motion said.
Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy said the motion was 'disgraceful' and called on Labour's general secretary Jennie Formby to 'investigate for the sake of all'.

Local Labour member Patrick Moule posted the motion on Twitter and voiced his disgust at what had happened
She said: 'What on earth is going on in Hackney North Labour that such a motion can be put forward?'
A Labour source said: 'CLPs are not involved in individual disciplinary cases and can't influence them, which would be entirely inappropriate.
'Rather than looking inwards and fueling internal divisions, we should be focusing on campaigning, developing our hugely popular manifesto and working together to fight the Tories.'
Local Labour member Patrick Moule posted a picture of the motion on Twitter, saying: 'Hackney North CLP passed this utter disgrace of a motion this evening, 45 votes to 35.
'Jewish members bravely spoke up and their lived experience was ignored and denied.
'I feel ashamed and bereft that my political home of over a decade has sunk so low.'
Mr Williamson, the Derby North MP, has vowed to clear his name, saying he had a 'very strong case'.
He won support from activists in Sheffield Hallam, where the constituency Labour party passed a motion saying the allegation Mr Williamson was downplaying anti-Semitism was 'totally unfounded' and pledged to write to Ms Formby calling for his reinstatement.
Oliver Coppard, who was Labour's candidate in Sheffield Hallam in 2015, said he was 'genuinely saddened' by the motion, adding: 'I know that the 40 members who voted to ignore the genuine concerns of the Jewish community and good people from across our movement do not speak for the majority of the members of our party in Sheffield Hallam or the community itself.'
A Labour Party spokesman said that while anti-Semitism complains since April related to 0.1 per cent of its membership 'one anti-Semite in our party is one too many', adding: 'We are determined to tackle antisemitism and root it out of our party once and for all membership.'

The Hackney North and Stoke Newington ...
It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
