Yousef Ghaleb Makki who was stabbed to death in Hale Barns, Cheshire, on Saturday
A 17-year-old boy nodded and tried to smile at his devastated parents as he appeared in court to answer charges that he murdered Manchester Grammar schoolboy Yousef Makki with a lock-knife.
The youngster's mother broke down in tears as the teenager walked into Manchester's Youth Court for the two-minute hearing.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of the murder of 17-year-old Yousef Makki in the wealthy Cheshire village of Hale Barns on Saturday evening.
He is also accused of possession of a silver lock-knife, while another 17-year-old boy, who has been bailed, is accused of trying to help him dispose of the weapon.
Dressed in a grey sweat-shirt, black trousers and displaying a black-eye, the teenager acknowledged his mother and father with a brief nod and a downward smile as he stood in the dock.
The defendant was asked to state his name and give his date of birth. He nodded as he was told he would be remanded.
Meanwhile, the second teenager appeared in court this afternoon charged with assisting an offender and possession of a knife and was released on bail.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was told to 'keep out of trouble' by magistrates.
He told he would be released on bail and ordered to come back to court in three weeks' time.
Dressed in blue hoodie top, grey t-shirt and grey track suit trousers, the clean-faced youngster listened attentively to the court proceedings.
He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth, nodding to chair of magistrates Joyce Fletcher to confirm he had understood.

The school-boy fidgeted with his hands and swept back his short hair. He nodded repeatedly and winked at his parents who sat in the front of the court during the 15-minute hearing.
Crown Prosecutor Danielle Allanson told the court the youngster was eligible for bail.
She said: 'Having considered the offences and criteria the crown re content he can be bound to bail in that he does not meet the criteria [the criteria for refusing bail].
'We are seeking surrender of his passport and a passport has been surrendered.'
Yousef, from Burnage, Manchester, is thought to have won a scholarship to attend the £12,000-a-year independent Manchester Grammar School.
In a tribute, his family described the teenager as a 'loving and caring son and brother' who was sporty and a dedicated student.
'We are absolutely devastated and cannot believe that our son has gone. This senseless loss has affected the whole community,' they said.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
