«Breaking News» Woman's death in police custody ruled suicide by shooting herself with hands cuffed behind back

The death of a 19 -year-old Virginia woman who died while in police custody from a gunshot wound to the head in July has been ruled a suicide by the medical examiner's office.

Police said Sarah Wilson managed to shoot herself through the mouth while her hands were cuffed behind her back following a drug bust during a traffic stop in Chesapeake on July 25.

Officers had left her unattended while in pursuit of her boyfriend, Holden Medlin, 27, during which time she is said to have obtained a gun from the Lexus she was riding in.

Wilson's mother, Dawn, said she doubted her daughter took her own life, based on what she said are witness accounts that point to police shooting Sarah.

No police body camera footage has been released from the incident, because police said it was knocked off during their pursuit of Medlin.

Chesapeake police spokesperson Leo Kosinski spoke to Dailymail.com by phone on August 1 about Sarah's death, stating: 'the police did not shoot her... she died from suicide.'

Lt Kosinski confirmed at that time that Sarah had her hands restrained behind her back and said she was somehow able to reach into the car while an officer was not looking, grab the gun and take her own life.

'If you have anything motivating you and you’re limber enough, you can wiggle,' he noted.

But Sarah's mother, Dawn, told ABC 13 in August: 'Things are not matching up. Somewhere, somehow, there is a discrepancy.'

'In all of her life I have never known of [Sarah] to shoot a gun, own a gun, or even hold a gun,' Dawn said.

She added: 'There is a few different stories, but they all end the same: that the police shot her.'

According to police, Sarah was riding as a passenger in a car operated by Medlin at 4.30pm on July 25 when police officers pulled the vehicle over at the intersection of Berkley Avenue and Wilson Road in Chesapeake.

Medlin became 'disorderly' during the stop and resisted arrest, leading officers to use a Taser on him, investigators said.

During the altercation between police and Medlin, police said an unattended Wilson grabbed a gun and shot herself in the head, reported WAVY

The authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.

When asked to comment on the cellphone video, Kosinski said the person who recorded it arrived at the scene well after the incident.

'He made that up,' the spokesperson said in reference to the claim that an officer shot Wilson. 'He did not see anything.'

One of the officers at the scene was wearing a body camera, but it was knocked off the officer's uniform during the altercation with Medlin, police said.

Sarah's mother said her 19-year-old daughter, who went by the nickname ‘Sunshine,’ was a moody teenager but did not have a history of depression.

However, in early March she shared on her Facebook page a troubling post about depression, which read in part: 'why do people never talk about the part of depression when you just don't want anything anymore?...you just spend your day kinda waiting for it to end.'

Sarah’s social media accounts indicate that she was in a relationship with Medlin since 2017.

After Sarah's death, Medlin was booked into the Chesapeake City Jail on charges including possession of oxycodone, possession of suboxone, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a firearm with a schedule I or II drug, fleeing from a law enforcement officer, and being a felon in possession of a firearm

Medlin is accused of swallowing a 'golf-ball sized bag' of an unknown substance as officers approached the vehicle he was driving on the day of Sarah's death.

Authorities said the stop resulted in the confiscation of 11 oxycodone pills, a syringe, other drug paraphernalia, a rifle and ammunition.

Medlin's charges were certified by a grand jury on Tuesday.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
