A California woman was shocked when she observed a hungry sea lion viciously attack a leopard shark near Alcatraz on Sunday morning.
Tori Gorman snapped the wild moment while out on the San Francisco Bay. Gorman had been in the area to monitor swimmers for a race.
'We had just done a loop down to Pier 39 in the boat and were coming back when we saw splashing and slowed down to take a look,' Gorman explained to SFGate. 'When we realized what we were seeing, we were amazed.'

Sea lions (left) are known for preying on smaller sharks, including leopard (right) and thresher sharks
The sea lion can be seen in footage thrashing the shark around in the water. At one point, the mammal flings the shark in the air and sends it splashing back in the water.
'It was a National Geographic moment for sure,' Gorman added.
According to Marine Mammal Center staff veterinarian Dr. Cara Field, sea lions are known for going after smaller shark species for meals. Leopard sharks and thresher sharks are often fed upon by the mammals.

According to Marine Mammal Center staff veterinarian Dr. Cara Field, the sea lion was using a flinging technique that is known to stun prey
'The images shown are consistent with an adult male California sea lion preying on a leopard shark by utilizing a flinging technique during foraging that temporarily stuns the prey by taking it out of its element,' Field explained.
Field explained that sea lions are opportunistic and can be hard to read.
She added: 'California sea lions are wild animals that can be unpredictable.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
