Literature lovers across the country have taken to social media to mock the idea that books are the latest trend to take the fashion world by storm after Bella and Gigi Hadid were pictured clutching novels by Stephen King and Albert Camus.
The amusing thread initiated from an article published by the New York Post which was titled: 'Bella and Gigi Hadid make books the hot new accessory of 2019.'
Taking to Twitter to discuss the photographs of the supermodels at Milan and Paris fashion week, James Corden, 40, scoffed at the latest fashion craze claim.
'Oh please,' he wrote, followed by an eye-rolling emoji.
And he wasn't the only one who had something to say about hardbacks being dubbed the latest on-trend fashion statement.
'Man I’ve been accessorizing since I was like five without knowing it,' wrote one book worm, while another joked: 'OMG they are the first people to read books EVER?!? What trendsetters.'

Many bookworms took to social media to mock the apparent new fashion statement, with one writing: 'Man I've been accessorizing since I was five without knowing it'
A third amused by the comparison of a book to an accessory commented: 'I do think it is hilarious that the article said "hot NEW accessory." A book... I have been carrying books for ages... I have been fashion forward for decades!
The presenter's post has been liked 17k times, with many joking they'd been trendy for years without even realising.
'Finally I'm ahead of a fashion trend!! #trendyatlast,' penned one, while a second commented: 'Haha yes very fashionista of you.'
Others joked they'd soon be jumping on the bandwagon. 'Watch me carry a library,' said one, while another questioned: 'Will I be sexier if it's a stack bookshelf and not just one book?'
TV presenter James Corden reposted the article regarding the new fashion accessory and penned: 'Oh please,' followed by a rolling eye emoji
Others who have been reading books for years couldn't believe they were finally bang-on-trend. One amused social media user penned: 'Finally I'm ahead of a fashion trend!'
And the comments continued with one amused book lover, who slowly videoed their precious collection, writing: 'I am going to be so trendy.'
'Oh amazing! I can finally start reading again...couldn’t possibly when it wasn’t considered "cool", said another, while a third added: 'Maybe I should start taking my books to college for fashion instead of studying hmm.'
Meanwhile, a further who took the whole idea way more seriously slammed the new fashion statement.
'How about that true intelligence from really reading those books being the latest accessory. That accessory lasts forever and gets you a lot further in life.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
