Watching violent female characters on television is 'oddly empowering', the creator of the hit BBC series Killing Eve has said.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who wrote the drama, said it is 'refreshing' to see women be depicted this way after years of television in which they were brutalised themselves.
Speaking to the Andrew Marr Show ahead of the show's highly anticipated return next month, she said: 'I think people are slightly exhausted by woman being brutalised on screen.

Empowered: Killing Eve creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has said it is 'refreshing' to see women be depicted as violent after years of television in which they were brutalised themselves
'We're being allowed to see woman on slabs the whole time and being beaten up, and in some ways that's important to see because it shows the brutality against women.
'Seeing woman being violent, the flip side of that, is refreshing and oddly empowering.'
Killing Eve stars Jodie Comer as a ruthless assassin and Sandra Oh as an MI5 officer as the pair are caught in a charged game of cat-and-mouse.

But the writer and actor said the show's second series, which is set to air on BBC America on April 7, will show 'hardly any gruesomeness.'
Phoebe said: 'Strangely there's hardly any gruesomeness that we were allowed to show.
'There's a man on the slab but no bits on show. We have just as much respect the other way around.
'BBC America, the original channel, said we couldn't have that much blood on show, we couldn't be too grotesque.

Dark: The writer and actor said the show's second series, which is set to air on BBC America on April 7, will show 'hardly any gruesomeness'

Tense: 'BBC America, the original channel, said we couldn't have that much blood on show, we couldn't be too grotesque,' Phoebe has said
'The challenge was to make it feel very violent without actually showing anything.'
A minute-long clip teasing the second series was released on Friday - and it showed Jodie Comer's Villanelle scream at a social media influencer to 'get a real job'.
The assassin then continued her love for costumes and disguises as she dressed up as a pig in the trailer, and persisted in her quest to outrun Eve, who repeatedly insists there are 'no feelings' between them.
Dubbed to Betty Hutton's iconic hit It's Oh So Quiet - the trailer kicks off with an echoing Villanelle narrating: 'Sometimes when you love someone you will do crazy things.'

Terror: The assassin also continues her love for costumes and disguises as she dresses up as a pig in the trailer
As the trailer then cuts to Eve (Sandra Oh) it sets the stage for the season's new plot, with the MI5 officer desperately trying to track down Villanelle after stabbing her in the Season One Finale.
Last month, Jodie revealed what fans can expect from the assassin in the new season, and she and co-star Sandra attended the Television Critics Associate BBC America/AMC panel.
On the show's opening scenes she said: 'We see Villanelle in a completely different way. She has no control of the situation.'

Explosive: The minute-long preview reveals very little about the season's plot, or how Villanelle survived her stabbing
Jodie also explained that Villanelle's wardrobe will see a drastic shift as her character develops from the murderous psychopathic free to roam Europe of episodes old.
'You see her in a completely new, vulnerable setting, and her clothes are completely different… You’ll see, when she moves out of that vulnerable setting, how much her clothing means to her,' she added.
A UK air date for the second season of Killing Eve is yet to be announced.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
