Brave racegoers battled gale force winds and driving rain as they arrived at Cheltenham race course today for the first day of the annual festival.
As Storm Gareth continued to batter the UK umbrellas were the number one accessory, while some ladies resorted to strapping plastic bags on their feet to protect their shoes from the elements.
Day two of the festival is currently under threat of postponement amid forecasts of 50mph winds - and it could be extended to Saturday.
Cheltenham regulars Zara and Mike Tindall arrived arm in arm at the event, sharing a brolly as they entered Prestbury Park.

Meanwhile her husband kept it casual with jeans, a Peaky Blinders-style flat cap and smart brown leather shoes.
Carol Vorderman was also among the first celebrities to arrive at the event, which is the first race festival of the Spring calendar.
She looked chic in a fur-lined cream suede jacket with flared sleeves and a figure-hugging emerald green dress.
Carol completed the look with a fedora hat with a brown leather trim.
This brave racegoer (left) didn't let the grey skies dampen her mood, with a bold cropped lace top and skirt combo which left little to the imagination. Meanwhile another stylish visitor sported a short grey check dress with cape sleeves and matching military-style cap

Be seen in green like Carol wearing a dress by Roland Mouret
Carol Vorderman invested in a few figure-hugging dresses by Roland Mouret and Victoria Beckham years ago, and she's still wearing them now. It just goes to show that it's worth investing a bit more in a classic designer piece that will never go out of style!
The forest green dress she chose for the Cheltenham Festival today is from Roland Mouret's Pre-Autumn/Winter 2008 collection, and it looks just as good ten years on. We love the keyhole neckline, long sleeves and asymmetric hemline. But as with any RM design, it's really all about the flawless fit.
You'll have to do some vintage shopping if you're determined to track down this exact style, but if you fancy copying Carol in just a couple of clicks, check out the lookalike pencil dresses in our edit below.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
