Jeremy Paxman became the unexpected hero of the Great British Bake Off last night, as viewers praised his hilarious appearance on the show.
In the Stand Up To Cancer special, the journalist and University Challenge presenter struggled with the basics of baking, including turning the mixer on, managing the timings and even remembering the word 'bake'.
But his poor effort went down a treat with viewers who were delighted at seeing the famously stern presenter, 68, on the back foot for once.
'When life gives you lemons, watch Jeremy Paxman make a fabulous mess on #GBBO'. I could watch his posh self-deprecating angst for HOURS,' one commented.
Another declared the presenter is their 'new hero' thanks to his lack of ability in the kitchen.
Jeremy Paxman admitted he was an 'alien' in the kitchen, as viewers praised him for his hilarious Great British Bake Off appearance
The judges were unimpressed by the shape of his biscuits in the technical challenge, comparing the shape to elephants rather than dogs, but did praise the flavour
Viewers loved his attempts on the baking show, as he struggled with the basics of the kitchen, with one even calling him her 'spirit animal'
Another wrote:'I think Jeremy Paxman is the best person to ever enter the Bake Off tent.'
Jeremy began his hilarious appearance by admitting he thought he was going to be humiliated, but didn't care.
As the technical round kicked off, Jeremy announced he would be making ginger biscuits, shaped like his dog Derek, gesturing to a photograph of the adorable dog on his work station.
But he struggled with turning his blender on, turning his timer off and icing his doggy treats.
Bake Off fans were stunned by Paxman's appearance, which they called 'the gift that keeps on giving' as they named him 'the best person to ever enter the Bake Off tent'
He admitted he may have been 'a little over ambitious' with his character biscuits as he presented them to the judges, who had asked for detailed and well-iced bakes.
Paul Hollywood deemed him the most 'lost' contestant that he'd ever seen in the tent, while Prue Leith compared his dog biscuits bakes to an elephant shape, and said they were 'very badly iced'.
However they actually praised him for his flavour.
And during the technical challenge in which they had to make chocolate crumpets, he announced he wasn't very good at following instructions - which may be the reason behind his baking struggles.

Presenter Noel Fielding attempted to offer some moral support to Jeremy, who tried to make 'Derek the dog' for the Signature Challenge

Noel Fielding is Lazy Oaf's biggest fan.
He regularly rocks the brand's quirky designs when hosting The Great British Bake Off, and the black and white printed shirt he wore for this celebrity version of the show is another Lazy Oaf masterpiece.
Check out the adorable framed illustration print. It's totally typical of Noel's style, particularly when teamed with skinny jeans and gold ankle boots.
He's clearly not the only fan of the label, because this oversized long sleeved shirt has now sold out, but click (right) to take a closer look.

Jeremy was bamboozled by baking the crumpets, calling the technical challenge instructions 'useless' and deeming the second round of the competition 'impossible'.
He couldn't manage to locate his warming draw in order to get his chocolate crumpets to rise and struggled to detect the temperature of his jam.
'I'm not enjoying it', the University Challenge presenter announced, with Noel deeming his crumpets 'a write off.'
The judges deemed his bake 'very salty' after Jeremy overloaded his crumpets with bicarbonate of soda.

His showstopper, which was supposed to represent a 'hobby', stunned viewers, with one calling it 'a massive cow pat'.
The journalist and presenter put his best effort to make a 'fishing' cake, in homage to his own favourite pastime.
In order to impress Prue, who shares his love for fishing, he was keen to present the judge with a small model of her atop a rock.
But the cake quickly collapsed, and Jeremy was forced to desperately attempt to remake the top of the bake.
The University Challenge presenter was forced to quickly scribble hair onto the model 'Prue Leith' and drew on her classic dark frames to make her more recognisable
While Jeremy struggled with the artistic elements of his bake, the judges were impressed by the flavour of his cakes
He dolloped icing onto the bake, and scribbled hair and Prue's classic glasses onto the tiny model.
'It wouldn't, you know, set,' he told the judges, as they quickly reminded him the technical term was bake.
While Jeremy admitted he had as much artistic talent as his dog, it seems Prue and Paul were impressed by the flavour of his lemon drizzle, and praised his efforts.
And viewers agreed, with one saying: 'One of the funniest things in a while; Jeremy Paxman oozing curmudgeonly on celebrity bake off.'
Another commented:'Jeremy's reaction to getting praise from Prue and Paul is so sweet.'
Viewers praised Jeremy's attitude, with some even calling him 'the sexiest thing' they'd seen on television

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
