A fire and rescue crew coming upon a raging inferno in Virginia was able to save the stars and stripes waving dangerously near the flames despite losing the building.
Video footage at the fire at Hopewell Moose Lodge in Hopewell, Virginia, early Thursday morning shows two of the firefighters hurriedly working to bring the U.S. flag down as other crew members tried to douse a blaze behind them.
'That's crazy and I think it's awesome that they'd take time to do that,' lodge member Kaloeb Crockett told WTVR. 'That shows what that means to them.'
Firefighters called to the building that houses the international fraternal service organization, known as Moose International, was already completely engulfed in fire and smoke.
Hopewell Fire and Rescue arrived at the Moose Lodge in Hopewell, Virginia, early Thursday morning to the scene of a building completely up in flames
One firefighter was initially trying to get the flag down in front of the lodge when another one ran in to help rescue it
'When I got here it was so engulfed in flames that you couldn't even really figure where it started,' Don Readshaw, lodge treasurer, said. 'It's a feeling of futility because there's nothing you can do.'
The flames appeared to originate in the laundry and kitchen sections in the center of the building, and foul play is not currently suspected by investigators.
'This is one of my top ten,' Hopewell Fire Chief Donny Hunter said of the massive size of the fire.

The lodge that housed the local chapter of Moose International, a fraternal service organization, was a total loss
Brian Carpenter says that with help from the community, the lodge will be rebuilt
'We don't usually lose a whole building. I mean, we pride ourselves in being very aggressive and fighting fire hard.'
Meanwhile, lodge governor Brian Carpenter members of the community other Moose lodges, and other social clubs are reaching out to help with future rebuilding.
'We'll be back. A little bit bigger, a little bit cleaner, a little bit neater, and we'll be able to do what we do all over again,' Carpenter said.
Carpenter also received the flag back from Fire Chief Hunter after the fire, saying that it meant everything to him that the flag could be saved and returned.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
