«Breaking News» Cheltenham Ladies Day racegoers don VERY bright outfits and plunging necklines

It may not carry the clout of Ascot, but Cheltenham Ladies Day revellers went all out to up the style stakes for day two of the annual festival.

This year sees the return of the #ColourMeMarch competition, where for the first time male as well as female racegoers are encouraged to add a splash of colour to their outfits.

Judges will narrow it down to four finalists, who can then spin the Winning Post of Fortune to land one of the luxurious prizes up for grabs.

These include a brand new Mini ONE car, a Boodles item of jewellery worth £3,800, a hotel spa package and hat worth £350 and £250 worth of fashion vouchers.

The second day of racing will go ahead as planned despite fears over high winds following a precautionary track inspection earlier this morning.

The chance of a cancellation due to the weather today raised the prospect of a 'People's Saturday' at the Festival for the first time.

It's Zara Tindall's second trip to the Cheltenham Festival this week, and she's chosen another winning outfit for Ladies Day.

Yesterday she teamed a navy Guinea London coat with a teal Juliette Botterill hat, but today she's gone for pretty shades of plum, accessorising her Pip Howeson coat with another Juliette Botterill headpiece and a bag by Aspinal of London.

We love the military-inspired buttons, stand collar and distinctive angular pockets on this piece. It's bespoke so isn't available to buy unfortunately, but click (right) to browse the brand's similar coats.

Today's feature race is the £400,000 Grand 1 Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase, the trophy for which will be presented by the Duchess of Cornwall.

Early arrivals were clearly dressed to impress as they entered Prestbury Park this morning, with knee-high boots, fur stoles and extravagant hats clearly the order of the day.

Many had clearly taken inspiration from the glorious Gloucestershire countryside, plumping for tweed coats and feathery accessories.

It was a far cry from yesterday, where some ladies resorted to using plastic bags to cover their shoes to protect them from the lashing rain.

One even used a box used to sell daffodils in a supermarket as a makeshift hat.

The dreaded 50mph winds were clearly an issue, with many revellers clinging to their hats and clothing as they entered the race track.

On Day One, Espoir D'Allen, rode by jockey Mark Walsh, defied the odds to beat favourite and two-time winner Buveur D'Air to take gold in the Champion Hurdle.

Outsiders race to glory in today's races at Cheltenham

City Island won the curtain-raiser - the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle Race - on day two at Cheltenham, rode by jockey Mark Walsh.

He told ITV Racing: 'We still don't know how good he is because even when he gets to the front he doesn't do a stroke.'

Jockey Harry Cobden’s horse Topofthegame was true to his name in the Novices' Steeple Chase, galloping to glory to beat closest rival Santini.

The third race of the day - the Coral Cup Hurdle - was decided by a photo finish, with William Henry taking it by a whisker.

It was neck and neck between Altior and Sceau Royal after the last in the Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase, with Altior clinching the win.

Winning jockey Nico de Boinville told ITV Racing: 'He's an absolute warrior, what an absolute monster, he's right up there, what a horse, we'll enjoy the moment.'

Tiger Roll was one of the favourites to take the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase, and he did just that, with jockey Keith Donoghue calling it a 'dream come true'.

'Knifeman is arrested' at Cheltenham: Armed police handcuff man suspected of carrying blade at Ladies Day - amid strong security at annual event

By James Wood for MailOnline

Armed police have arrested a man on suspicion of possessing a knife at Cheltenham Festival today, amid a strong show of security at the racecourse.

Gloucestershire Police received reports of a man with a knife at 10.20am and immediately dispatched armed officers to the area who made an arrest.

Dressed in a raincoat and jeans, the man can be seen speaking to police before handcuffs are slapped on his wrist and he is led away by at least three armed officers.

Punters arrive at Cheltenham Racecourse on Wednesday morning for the second day of action. Police have announced they are adopting a 'very strong anti-drugs' stance for the duration of the event

A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Constabulary said: 'Officers swiftly responded to reports of a man in possession of a knife at Cheltenham racecourse at 10.20am today.

'The man has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a bladed article in a public place.'

It comes on the second day of the annual horse-racing event, typically Ladies Day, and after police announced they were adopting a 'very strong anti-drugs' stance for the duration of the event.

Ian Renton, regional director of Cheltenham and the South West for Jockey Club Racecourses just yesterday explained why a strong stance on security was being taken this year.

He told the Telegraph: 'We have a large security presence here for the Festival, both from the police and security companies.

'As people might be aware we cracked down a couple of years ago on the availability of alcohol to try to discourage any excessive drinking.

'We will continue with that policy to ensure all our racegoers can come and have a fun time without any sign of rowdiness.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
