Paul Manafort narrowly avoided an extensive jail sentence and was handed down just 47 months behind bars for his tax and bank fraud crimes on Thursday.
But Congress freshman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Monica Lewinsky, Edward Snowden and angry Twitter users are shocked by his light sentence, after prosecutors and Robert Mueller pushed for 24 years in federal prison.

The federal judge overseeing Paul Manafort's sentencing handed down a sentence of just 47 months after the former Trump campaign chair pleaded for leniency from his wheelchair but did not express remorse on Thursday in Virginia
Trump's former campaign manager was sentenced to almost four years in prison by Virginia Judge T.S. Ellis for his crimes involving defrauding banks and the government and failing to pay millions of dollars of income taxes.
The 69-year-old appeared in the Virginia court in a wheelchair due to his gout.
Monica Lewinsky also condemned the light sentence writing: 'Yup. I had been threatened w/ 27 years for filing a false affidavit + other actions trying desperately to keep an affair private.'
Intelligence agent Edward Snowden joined the chorus on Twitter, slamming the judge's leniency with Trump's former campaign manager.
'#Manafort: 47 months for a lifelong carnival of criminality. Petraeus: 0 days for trading the country's highest secrets for a more favorable biography. Manning: 35 YEARS for revealing evidence of actual war crimes to the press. Your sentence derives from your proximity to power,' he tweeted.

The sentence sparked outrage on Twitter with many slammed Judge T.S. Ellis for qualifying Manafort as a 'good person' who lived an otherwise 'blameless life' aside from his crimes
Many Twitter users attacked Judge Ellis' comments where he said Manafort 'lived an otherwise blameless life' despite his 'very serious' crimes.
Ellis said Manafort had no criminal history and highlighted his academic achievements in attending nearby Georgetown University and graduating from law school there in his sentencing.
'Mr Manafort has engaged in some good things and has been a good friend and generous to others. Of course that does not erase his criminal conduct,' Ellis said.
His justification of the sentence sparked fury online.

'The judge calling #Manafort "a good person" is like Trump calling the Charlottesville Nazis "some very good people!" Shameful!!!' another Twitter user echoed.
Twitter user Josh Shaffer criticized the judge's kind comments during the sentencing hearing.
'I've seen a lot of people sentenced, and I can't recall a judge ever taking into account someone being a "good friend" who led "an otherwise blameless,"' he said.
Many pointed out that people have served longer jail times for less serious crimes like marijuana possession or stealing quarters
Twitter Judd Legum also blasted the sentence, drawing a comparison to the unfair sentences other people have been handed down.
'Paul Manafort was just sentenced to less than four YEARS for committing multiple felonies, including tax and bank fraud. Crystal Mason is serving FIVE YEARS for trying to vote in the 2016 election. (She didn't realize she was ineligible due to a prior conviction.)' he wrote.
Brooklyn Public Defender Scott Hechinger compared the sentence to that of his own client, showing just how significant Manafort's jail sentence is.
'For context on Manafort’s 47 months in prison, my client yesterday was offered 36-72 months in prison for stealing $100 worth of quarters from a residential laundry room,' Hechinger tweeted Thursday evening.
Following the sentencing, ex-federal prosecutor Paul Butler said: 'Judge Amy Berman Jackson, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you. Next week in that sentencing, you have the power to correct that tragic injustice.'
The plea points to his Washington D.C. sentencing where he'll be handed a jail sentence for his crimes conspiring against the U.S. in regards to work with a Ukrainian firm.
Others pointed out that Manafort received a light sentence due to his once-powerful stance in Washington.
'To be a rich, white man in America, you get a different kind of justice,' law professor Paul Butler said.
Some questioned just how 'hard' his time will be in jail.
'So Manafort got nearly four years. I wonder how much time he'll actually do. Is he going to a cushy federal prison with steak and lobster?' one Twitter user asked.
'It's sickening that Manafort got off with a small sentence while poor people who commit far lesser crimes spend a decade or more, simply because they can't afford high priced lawyers. Agreed on lowering sentences for all. The biggest punishment for M was confiscation of assets,' one Twitter user added.
'Why is everyone acting so shocked? Don't they know the historical record of our legal and justice system?!? Men like Manafort (much less Trump) don't go to jail,' one candid social media user posted.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
