«Breaking News» Teen dies on Royal Caribbean cruise liner while trying to climb balcony

A teenager fall to his death from the eighth floor of a cruise liner while trying to climb into his family's room via the balcony. 

Laurent Mercer, 16, died on Friday after slipping and falling from Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas ship while it was docked in Haiti.

Mercer, who was on a cruise with his family at the time, did not have a key card to his room and was trying to break in from an adjoining balcony, officials said.

Officials say Mercer apparently didn't have his room card, attempted to enter his eighth-floor room from an adjacent balcony, but lost his footing and fell

At least two people witnessed the fall, according to posts on social media after the accident, with more reporting hearing screams.

A Royal Caribbean spokesman said: 'The ship's medical team responded to the pier and attempted CPR, but the [boy] had sustained major head trauma and he was pronounced dead.' 

The body was turned over to the Broward Medical Examiner's Office when the ship returned Sunday to Port Everglades.

Mercer was from the islands of Wallis and Futuna, which is a French territory. 

'We are saddened by the loss of one of our guests in a tragic accident,' Owen Torres, manager of corporate communications for Royal Caribbean, said in an email.  

The Harmony of the Seas is said to be one of the largest ships in the world and can hold up to 5,479 guests and 2,193 crew members.

The teen was from the French island collectivity Wallis and Futuna

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
