«Breaking News» Man dies after falling from a height inside a Canary Wharf shopping centre

A man has died after falling from a height inside a Canary Wharf shopping centre - less than 24 hours after a commuter died at the station in similar circumstances.

Paramedics were seen desperately administering CPR near a set of escalators where the stricken man had plunged to the ground.

Despite their best efforts the man was declared dead at the scene, with witnesses described hearing a 'ping' and a 'thud'.

A member of staff at the Halifax bank near to the escalators said: 'I heard a ping and then a thud so I ran out and looked over the side.

'There was a body lying on the floor he had fallen straight past me. I couldn't look anymore, I had to look away. We've been told to keep the doors closed and stay inside'.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man had tragically died.

A spokeswoman said: 'Police were called at 08:44hrs on Tuesday, 8 January by the London Ambulance Service to reports of a man who had fallen from height in Canada Square, E14.

'Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended. The man, believed to be aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene at 09:05hrs.

'His next-of-kin have not yet been informed. A cordon is in place. Enquiries continue.'

The Canary Wharf Group said in an earlier statement: 'We can confirm that there has been a medical incident on the Canary Wharf estate.

'We are supporting the emergency services in their response.'

It comes the day after another man died at Canary Wharf station after reportedly falling from a height.

An air ambulance and police officers were rushed to the station in the capital's finance district at around 3pm yesterday.

Witnesses said they heard a sickening 'thud' and saw 'blood splattered everywhere'.

One witness reportedly checked the man's his wrist 'to see if he could feel a pulse' before realising he was dead.

The station was closed for just over an hour but re-opened at 4.15pm.

Police have not yet revealed the gender or age of the person while they work to identify them and inform their family - but some witnesses say the deceased was male.

In January 2014, a JP Morgan banker threw himself from the roof of the firm's European headquarters following the breakdown of a relationship.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
