A baby giraffe named Kumi was euthanized late last month after keepers found he was suffering an untreatable gore wound to his stomach, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park said Saturday.
The zoo said in the statement that the five-month-old giraffe, born at the San Diego wildlife park, was put to rest the morning of December 29 at his field habitat in East Africa.
Keepers discovered the untreatable wound that morning, which they believe was inflicted by an antelope based on its characteristics.
'We're sad to report our five-month-old male giraffe, named Kumi, was euthanized the morning of December 29, 2018,' the zoo said in the Facebook statement.

'The Safari Park houses numerous species together that would live together in their native habitats, where inter-species encounters also can happen.
'The injury was assessed and it was determined that it could not be treated... the Safari Park veterinary staff made the difficult decision to euthanize the young giraffe.
'Please share your condolences with the staff, volunteers, members and guests who will be feeling this loss.'
Kumi was in good health prior to the attack and behaving normally.
The baby giraffe was born August 6 at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, which is home to more than 3,000 animals representing more than 300 species, the zoo's Facebook bio states.
'Its renowned botanical collection represents 3,500 species and 1.75 million specimens.
'Over half of the Park’s 1,800 acres have been set aside as protected native species habitat.'

Several Facebook users shared their condolences after the park announced the heartbreaking news of Kumi's passing.
'Dear Cartakers of these precious souls. I know these animals are so special to you,' one commenter said.
'I appreciate all the hard and sometimes unpleasant work you do to provide a good life for these animals. So sorry for your loss.'
Another wrote: 'Sorry to hear of your loss... Kumi was a beautiful giraffe, whom I'm sure brought joy to many during his short life,'
Someone else added: 'Bless his little heart.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.
Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
