«Breaking News» Trump may dip into disaster funds for California and Puerto Rico to pay for wall

President Donald Trump has reportedly been briefed on a plan that could divert disaster relief funds from California, Puerto Rico and elsewhere to help pay for a border wall.

On Air Force One Thursday morning, Trump discussed the plan with Department of Defense officials to tap into disaster relief funds to pay for the military to construct the wall, NBC News reported, citing three officials briefed on the discussion.

The $13.9 billion fund has been allocated but not yet obligated through contracts for a variety of projects in California, Florida, Texas, other states and Puerto Rico, which have experienced hurricanes, wildfires or other natural disasters, a congressional aide told the AP.

The money funds a variety of projects, mostly flood control measures to prevent future disasters.

Trump is considering invoking emergency powers to build the wall, as his government shutdown standoff with Congressional Democrats drags on over his request for $5.7 billion to build 234 miles of wall.

If Trump does declare an emergency, he would be able to tap into the $13.9 billion fund to pay for the Army Corps of Engineers to construct the wall.

Under the plan discussed on Thursday, Trump could dip into the $2.4 billion allocated to projects in California, including flood prevention and protection projects along the Yuba River Basin and the Folsom Dam, as well as the $2.5 billion set aside for reconstruction projects in Puerto Rico, which is still recovering from Hurricane Maria, officials said.

DoD officials told Trump that with the funding, the Army Corps could build 315 miles of border wall in about 18 months, officials familiar with the planning told NBC.

The wall would be a 30-foot bollard-style wall with anti-climbing features, the officials said.

The Corps would reportedly focus first on the heavily trafficked border areas along the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, in San Diego and El Centro in California, as well as Yuma, Arizona.

On Thursday, Trump visited the border with Mexico near McAllen, Texas, where he gave remarks indicating he is getting closer to declaring an emergency.

'We can declare a national emergency. We shouldn't have to because this is common sense,' Trump told reporters during the trip.

'This shouldn't be happening in our country,' he added. Without a wall, he said, 'you'll have crime in Iowa, you'll have crime in New Hampshire, you'll have crime in New York.'

Asked about a timetable for declaring a national emergency, Trump said he would see how it goes with Congress.

In an interview filmed at the border, Trump told Fox New's Sean Hannity that he 'most likely I will' declare an emergency if Congress doesn't make a deal.

'I can't imagine any reason why not because I'm allowed to do it. The law is 100 percent on my side,' Trump said.

Trump dismissed the argument that walls are 'medieval' by saying that wheels are also a medieval technology, and pointing out that the armored personnel carrier has wheels, like all modern vehicles.

'A wall would be so effective,' Trump said. 'It would solve so many killings and so much death and drugs and human trafficking where - they tape up women on their face - they tape them up, and they put them in the back of a car or a van and they drive right through our border.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
