«Breaking News» SAG Awards 2019: The Favourite star Olivia Colman fails to show

Olivia Colman continued a recurring theme on Sunday evening by failing to show for her second consecutive awards ceremony as the Screen Actors Guild Awards got underway in Los Angeles – despite featuring in one of its most prestigious categories.

The British actress, 44, had been hotly tipped to win the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of a frail, eccentric and introverted Queen Anne of Great Britain in The Favourite.

But she was notably absent as The Wife star Glenn Close beat her to the award, little more than a week after failing to make an appearance at the London Critics Circle Award, where she was named Actress of the Year.

The loss marks what has so far been a triumphant awards season for Olivia, who also won the gong for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Prize at the 76th Golden Globes on January 7. 

On that occasion the former Peep Show star was in attendance,  and she thanked her co-stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, who she referred to as “ma b****es”, while telling the audience: 'I would like to tell you how much working on this film meant to me but I can’t remember because I’m too excited.' 

Olivia has also earned a Best Leading Actress nod for her starring role The Favourite, while co-star Rachel also picks up a nomination in the supporting actress category.

Olivia once again finds herself in the best actress category alongside Glenn Close for The Wife, Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born, Yalitza Aparicio for Roma and Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me? 

Before landing an Oscar nomination for her role as Queen Anne, she had a successful career on the small screen in Green Wing, That Mitchell And Web Look and Twenty Twelve, and in British films including Hot Fuzz and Tyrannosaur before she played the role of Carol Thatcher opposite Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady.

It was her part as the hotel manager in 2015’s The Lobster that paired her up with Greek film-maker Yorgos Lanthimos, who would go on to direct her to her Oscar nomination.

The Lobster, which also starred Colin Farrell, and Olivia’s The Favourite co-star Rachel, was set in a surreal dystopian future, where single people are obliged to find a romantic partner within 45 days or are turned into animals.

It was a critical hit and collected a best original screenplay nomination at the Oscars.

She followed up the film’s success with a star turn in the BBC drama The Night Manager opposite Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie, for which she won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy, and in Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s black comedy Fleabag. 

Her most anticipated role is yet to come, when she steps into the shoes of Queen Elizabeth II in the third series of The Crown as the lavish Netflix drama moves into the 1970s.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
