Theresa May today warned MPs that killing off her Brexit deal in this week's Commons showdown would be a 'catastrophe'.

The Prime Minister said failing to deliver what the public voted for in the referendum would be 'unforgivable' and undermine democracy.

But Mrs May is still facing a massive defeat in the crunch vote on Tuesday - with hardline Remainers and Brexiteers mobilising in a bid to thwart her plans.

Pro-EU rebels are said to be plotting a 'coup' against the government to give Parliament control of the negotiations with the EU and rule out a no-deal departure.

Tory ex-PM Sir John Major today called for Article 50 to be revoked to give the UK more time, saying it was the 'only sensible course'.

Meanwhile, Labour is gearing up to stage a no-confidence vote immediately after the Brexit deal decision - potentially as early as Wednesday.

With just two days to go before the Commons vote on her withdrawal agreement, Mrs May pleaded with parliamentarians to 'do what is right for our country' and back her controversial exit plan.

She said the UK risks crashing out of the EU without a deal or, if MPs are 'unwilling' to face the uncertainty of no deal, then the UK may not leave at all.

In what she described as the 'biggest and most important decision that any MP of our generation will be asked to make', the Prime Minister said it was time for politicians to 'deliver' for the people.

Writing in the Sunday Express, Mrs May said: 'You, the British people, voted to leave. And then, in the 2017 General Election, 80 per cent of you voted for MPs who stood on manifestos to respect that referendum result.

'You have delivered your instructions. Now it is our turn to deliver for you.

'When you turned out to vote in the referendum, you did so because you wanted your voice to be heard. Some of you put your trust in the political process for the first time in decades. We cannot - and must not - let you down.

'Doing so would be a catastrophic and unforgivable breach of trust in our democracy. So my message to Parliament this weekend is simple: it is time to forget the games and do what is right for our country.'

Her stark warning came as Downing Street said it was 'extremely concerned' about a backbench plot to change Commons rules to enable backbench motions to take precedence over Government business if Mrs May's deal falls.

Under the rebels' plan, reported in the Sunday Times, the Government would lose control of parliamentary business which would threaten Brexit legislation and the Government's ability to govern.

It was previously thought only ministers could put a halt to Britain leaving with no deal.

It has also emerged that John Bercow met Tory remain rebel Dominic Grieve on Tuesday, the day before the Speaker's controversial decision to allow MPs a vote on Mr Grieve's amendment to the timetable of the Brexit deal.

Sir John reiterated his support for a second referendum on Brexit, insisting it would be 'morally reprehensible' if the government allowed the country to crash out of the EU without a deal.

Writing that the divisions between people on both sides of the referendum debate have become 'bitter and entrenched', Sir John added: 'The cost of a no-deal Brexit to our national wellbeing would be heavy and long-lasting.

'The benefits are close to zero. Every single household - rich or poor - would be worse off for many years to come.

'Jumping off a cliff has never had a happy ending.'

He added that a 'new process' of national consultation was needed, adding: 'No true democracy should deny a considered choice to its people.'

Meanwhile, London mayor Sadiq Khan has written in the Observer suggesting that Mrs May should step down and call a general election if she loses next week's vote.

He wrote: 'It's clear that if our government and parliament are incapable of finding a way out of this mess, it should be taken out of the hands of the politicians and returned to the British people to take back control.'

But former Brexit minister Dominic Raab said Britain should be prepared to leave with no arrangement in place.

He wrote: 'If MPs vote the deal down, we should continue to press our EU partners for a deal that respects the referendum.

'If EU intransigence persists, we must be willing to leave the EU at the end of March on World Trade Organisation terms.

'We'd be in a stronger position, then, to continue the negotiations as an independent third country.'

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
