«Breaking News» Jury sees El Chapo texts sent to wife while on the run

Prosecutors in the trial of notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman presented evidence Wednesday showing text messages between Guzman and his wife Emma Coronel Aispuro, 29, while he was on the run after narrowly avoiding capture in 2012.

The evidence was shown to jurors at the trial in federal court in Brooklyn.

The messages were recovered with the help of a technician who set up a secure messaging system for the Sinaloa cartel before becoming an FBI cooperator. The tech put the spyware on phones passed out to members of Guzman's inner circle at his direction, the FBI agent testified.

The court was shown text messages exchanged between Guzman and Aispuro fussing over their twin daughters and exchanging assurances as he fled a raid by Mexican authorities on a mansion in Baja. On the day of the raid, Guzman told his wife about the escape in one of several messages.

'It all happened very fast,' Guzman wrote, according to prosecutors. 'I saw them pounding on the door next door, but was able to jump out.'

Guzman said in the messages that he needed a new set of clothes and some black dye for his mustache.

'I love you, love,' he wrote. 'Talk to you soon.' She responded at one point: 'I hope so darling.'

In an earlier exchange, Guzman described one of his daughters as 'fearless,' adding, 'I'm going to give her an AK-47 so she can hang with me.'

Aispuro and Guzman had been blowing kisses and waving to each other as the duo entered the court on Wednesday, as reported by the New York Post, but Aispuro was seen to stare straight ahead displaying no visible reaction to portions of the messages as they were displayed on a large video screen and read aloud by an FBI agent.

Aispuro, appeared to be wanting to ward off any negative energy when she arrived at court earlier in the day wearing a hamsa hand bracelet, considered a popular good luck symbol.

It features an eye symbol seen as potent in protecting the wearer from the evil eye, or envious eye, from people wishing you no good.

The hand, predates both Judaism and Islam and also represents blessings, power and strength.

Aispuro, the mother of Guzman's 7-year-old twin daughters, also wore a dark heavy top coat with gold buttons on top of a cream turtle neck sweater as she braved a cold Brooklyn breeze on her way into court.

El Chapo was a feared and admired crime boss in Mexico who was perhaps best known for escaping jail twice. He was recaptured and sent to the U.S. in 2017, where his lawyers say he's being framed.

Prosecutors claim Guzman was the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, which at one stage is believed to have been responsible for more than half of drugs smuggled across the Mexican/US border.

They believe he spent a quarter of a century smuggling cocaine into the U.S., amassing as much as $14 billion in wealth from doing so.

Guzman has pleaded not guilty to a raft of charges, including importation and distribution of cocaine as well as firearms possession.

The trial is expected to last up to 16 weeks.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
