«Breaking News» Love Island's Wes Nelson shuns traditional skatewear after Megan slammed 'unmanly' lycra

Wes Nelson put a modern spin on his Dancing On Ice outfit after girlfriend Megan Barton Hanson dubbed the costumes 'unmanly'.

The Love Island star, 20, rocked double denim for the skating launch show at London's Natural History Museum on Tuesday - a twist on the usual lycra and glitter synonymous with the dancers on the show.

Wes still had some sparkle injected into his look, however, as his black jacket was adorned with thousands of sequins, whilst his skinny jeans featured panels of rhinestones.

Looking in good spirits as he took to the ice, the nuclear engineer held on tight to professional skating partner Vanessa Baeur before showing off their moves on the rink.

Whilst he may have looked in high spirits, things were no doubt a bit frosty behind the scenes as his girlfriend was recently the target of professional skater Matt Ever's sharp tongue.

Megan was slammed by the professional after admitting she is dreading seeing Wes in sequins during next year's series because it's 'unmanly'.

During a recent interview with Fabulous magazine, the 24-year-old Love Island star said that if she isn't 'repulsed' by Wes in the first week she will continue to go and support him on the ice.

Matt, 42, who is partnered with Gemma Collins on this year's show, hit back at her comments and claimed that there is nothing unmanly about ice skating.

Taking to Twitter, the skater who has appeared in all nine series of the show, said:  'Hmmmm Megan.... don't think picking girls up for a living and wearing Lycra.... is unmanly or cringey.

'This show is my career and my passion. It's unfair to criticise this show and the work we are all putting in. There's nothing unmanly about [Dancing On Ice].'

Fans were quick to throw their support behind Matt, who also posted a photograph of himself in sequined Lycra lifting his female partner into the air.

One Twitter user suggested that Megan's comments would have been taken differently if they had been said by a man, writing: 'Imagine if a man said something like this about women? They would get slaughtered!! Never works both ways.'

To which Matt quipped: 'A-freakin-men.. or -women.'

Another noted the physique's of the male dancers, adding: ''Not manly??? Has she not seen the muscles on you guys??!!'

A third appeared to insulate that Megan should be supporting him regardless, tweeting: 'Nothing like supporting your man with whatever he's doing eh should be proud of the one u love whatever they're doing n wearing!

'Plus the strength n determination needed for this is unbelievable you guys r amazing x.'

However other's who noticed the post defended Megan and suggested that Matt had maybe misinterpreted the comments she had made.

One said: 'In fairness I think you are totally misinterpreting what she said. Of its Megan the Villain from Love Island so any opportunity to have a pop at her is welcomed.

'She wasn't saying ALL ice skaters were cringey just her boyfriend Wes in the light of the type of guy HE is.'(sic)

Another of Megan's fans agreed, saying: 'Nobody has an open mind these days, other people can have opinions, don't slate someone personally for theirs, I would be the same if my boyfriend did it too because it's not every day you see them in Lycra!

'I do however admire these skaters because I can image it's hard work.'

Wes' professional dancing partner Vanessa Bauer admitted recently she's 'worried' that he has missed so much practice due to his busy schedule, but added that he 'picks everything up so fast.'

Speaking on This Morning last week, the German dancer, 22 - who won the show last year with Jake Quickenden - said that rehearsals with the hunk are going well, despite his packed schedule.

She said: 'Rehearsals are going well… whenever we are on the ice training.

'[Wes] he's very ambitious and wants to go far but he's so tight on his schedule, so in demand, and he's on a ten day holiday in Mauritius right now. It worries me a little bit but he picks up everything so fast.'

Vanessa went onto add that Wes jets back to the UK on the day of the series' press launch, meaning they will have very few days to practice in the lead-up to the festive season.

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
