«Breaking News» Actor Ricky Schroder's fitness model daughter, 22, says she was 'paralyzed' in her father's shadow

The daughter of actor Ricky Schroder has revealed how she became 'paralyzed' under the pressure of growing up in the shadow of her famous father.

In a frank and emotionally raw interview with DailyMailTV, model and celebrity fitness guru Cambrie Schroder, 22, laid bare her battle with depression and the splits in her family.

The Hollywood Instagram model has an outwardly glamorous life with a successful lifestyle and fitness brand, Fit With Cambrie, used by stars including Sofia Richie, Amelia Hamlin, Olivia Giannulli and Kaia Gerber.

But despite her success, she confessed that her upbringing in the spotlight came with a darker side that she still struggles with today.

His 22-year-old daughter, one of four children with his ex-wife of 23 years, Andrea, told DailyMailTV that growing up with a famous father took a profound emotional toll.

'I grew up in a very abnormal situation,' she said. 'People might think it's so beautiful and glamorous, but actors aren't most of the time fully functioning humans.

'From my experience, a lot of actors need a lot of attention and so I felt like my emotional needs growing up, were not fully understood or met. I felt isolated a lot of my life because other kids my age weren't in the same situation.

'Everyone wanted to meet my dad. Everyone wanted to know my dad. It wasn't about the kids or my mom. Everyone wanted to be friends with us to meet my dad. It's not necessarily that he wanted that, but that's just what came with his career.'

Emotionally starved, Cambrie said she distracted herself with sports and fitness, but ended up turning inwards and bottling up her feelings.

'Growing up I always turned to physical activities to feel better about myself – I was on the swim team, I was a dancer, I was a cheerleader. All my physical activities helped me release endorphins and be distracted by the feelings I felt internally,' she said.

'I was totally introverted, totally shy. I never felt deeply connected to people. Spending so much time alone as a child wasn't good for my mental health and I slowly grew into feeling depressed and anxious.

'I'm still trying to understand where my feelings of isolation came from. I think my way of internalizing all my pain was to isolate myself.'

Despite this crippling introversion, Cambrie said she felt an intense pressure to live up to her father's stardom both from others and herself.

'My whole life people told me that I looked exactly like my dad and would always compare me to him. He had such immense amounts of success that I always felt like I needed to accomplish what he had accomplished.

'I had really high expectations of myself and I always wanted to be something so great. I just felt paralyzed with expectation and pressure on myself and my way to deal with it was to be alone and isolated.'

Deciding to take advantage of her teenage beauty and toned physique, Cambrie turned to modelling, trying to live up to the standards of stardom her father set.

But she was still dogged by feelings of inadequacy and depression, exacerbated by the cut-throat competition of the modelling industry.

'My whole life I tried to find careers and opportunities that would make me feel deeply satisfied like modeling, doing a movie. You'd think these things would make you feel good about yourself, but I, throughout all of them, struggled with immense amounts of depression and feeling so confused as to why I was accomplishing so much but felt so badly on the inside,' the Instagram model said.

'My biggest campaign was for Forever 21. My sister and I did this campaign for them and we had a huge billboard in Times Square. You'd think it was crazy cool but I didn't feel deeply accomplished by it.'

The model said she quickly grew to despise the industry and the destructive complexes it can give girls about their body image.

'The top famous people are either actresses or models and there's so much pressure to look perfect just so you can compete with those girls,' Cambrie told DailyMailTV. 'That's what our society values. And I just felt like crap about myself 24/7 because I was critiquing my look, my body, nonstop.

'You take a picture and you like edit it like crazy and then you put it out and you get such a positive response because you look abnormal, you have a tiny waist, a huge butt, perfect skin. 'You look gorgeous in this image but then you deep down know it's all fake.

'You feel like this beautiful person on the Internet to strangers but then when you're alone with yourself you feel ugly.'

Cambrie - who has 213,000 Instagram followers on her modeling page and another 73,600 followers on her fitness profile - said there is also a pressure to post bikini shots, near-nude selfies and sexualized photos as a quick fix to get more followers – something she has clashed with her parents about, leading her to block her dad on Instagram.

'It probably stresses [Ricky] out a lot. So it's better if he just doesn't see it. He comments on my pictures sometimes like 'this picture would be a lot better if you had more clothes on' or something like that. It's embarrassing.

'If you don't have a lot of followers on Instagram it's almost like you have no value, like your value is translated to how many followers you have. When you go to a model casting, the first thing they have you do is write down your name, your agency, and how many followers you have,' she added.

'It's such a crazy pressure. Girls will do such desperate things to gain followers. If you post more, show more skin, the more followers you get.'

The fitness guru revealed that bikini shots aren't the only thing she's had conflict with her father over, confessing that she feels she doesn't have a good relationship with Ricky.

'I wouldn't say I have a good relationship with my dad. I would say that I have to be the bigger person. I have to set boundaries and I have to kind of guide the relationship to what I need,' she told DailyMailTV.

'You can't blame him. He was a child actor in crazy situations and didn't develop most normal coping mechanisms and normal social skills. He's not normal. Of course, I love him. I will always love him. I see so much of him in me, but I don't necessarily agree with his life choices and it's hard.'

In 2016 the family was permanently divided when Ricky and Andrea filed for divorce. The split ended with Cambrie's two brothers, Holden, 27, and Luke, 25, living with their father on the family farm and Andrea moving to West Hollywood with the youngest child, Faith, 17.

'I feel for a lot of people whose families get divorced because I now realize how much pain it causes,' Cambrie said.

'I always came to my family to be my main support and so when they started going through crazy transitions I felt even more alone.'

But even as the divorce drama was unfolding, Cambrie found herself trapped under the spotlight in the Lifetime reality TV show Growing Up Supermodel.

'My dad's reaction to it was 'this is probably not going to be the best idea.' And he was right. It ended up being everything that I never wanted to be out there,' she said.

'The way they edit it, you have no control, and they staged things. The whole reality world is completely produced and fake. They create characters for you that you don't even know, and then they edit it so you fit that character. It's crazy.

'My sister and I and my mom were painted like the spoiled bratty ones, and then the rest of the group were painted to not like us, when really behind closed doors I was texting all the kids, we were all friends. We were close, there was no drama between us, it was all manufactured.

'The reality show happened right as my parents were splitting up, so there was a lot of real life drama that was going on, and having cameras around during that hard period of time was very traumatic,' the Instagram model said.

'I really, really wanted to find a passion that made me feel good about myself, where I felt like I was helping enhance other people's lives and not being so self centered,' she said.

'I stopped editing my pictures. I don't change my body shape anymore like I used to. I realized that was part of the issue that was making me so unhappy and insecure. To everyone I looked a certain way but then in real life I was something different.

'My escape became fitness. It was working out, going on walks, eating healthy. Taking care of myself was my way to love myself.

'I still work every day on loving who I am as a person. It's hard to love yourself. I feel for the girls who feel alone, depressed, suicidal. I've been there, I've felt all of the worst pain in the world, and for me fitness has become my escape. I hope that I can help reach other girls and it can become their escape as well.

'There's been days, weeks where I literally cannot get out of bed. I don't know what's wrong with me, I don't know why I feel this way. I've had so much opportunity, but I just feel like death on the inside. I literally felt like I'm dying.

'Now the only thing that gets me out of bed is knowing that there's other girls that I need to show up for, knowing that I need to help other girls who have felt that way.'

Cambrie says she now feels more beautiful and confident, running her own business and helping other girls.

Her Fit With Cambrie products include a 'Coachella Ready Bod Detox', branded protein powders, clothes, and a lifestyle, meal and workout plan.

Among her clientele are Select model and 20-year-old daughter of Lionel Richie, Sofia Richie, and Cindy Crawford's daughter Kaia Gerber.

The fitness guru sells face-to-face sessions for $200 per hour, and Skype diet classes for $100 per hour, giving followers a 'fat burning meal plan and muscle toning workouts' to get the 'beach body of your dreams'.

'I really love posting on my Fit With Cambrie account because I post other girls' recipes, workouts, things that aren't just about myself,' she said.

'My personal page sadly is mostly just modeling pictures of myself. I hate posts on that page because I feel like every other girl, just showing themselves off. I'm sick of it.

'If you're not offering something besides your looks or your body on social media, it makes me sick,' she added.

Though she has grown disdainful of women solely flaunting their bodies on Instagram, Cambrie is exuberant about her 17-year-old sister Faith, who she tips for success as a model.

'My sister is going to probably follow down the traditional model path,' she said. 'She's just a complete bombshell babe. She makes me feel like insecure a lot of times. She's just innately gorgeous. She just radiates this sexy energy.

'Her body looks fake, but it's not. It's bombshell, out of control. She's going to model for Victoria's Secret. She's going to be a huge, huge model. In two years she's going to be the biggest. I'm like her stage mom I believe in her so much, but she's gorgeous.'

In a frank and emotionally raw interview with DailyMailTV, model and celebrity fitness guru Cambrie Schroder, 22, laid bare her battle...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
