«Breaking News» Canadian cartoonist under fire for showing Trudeau in an avalanche, after PM's brother died in one

A Canadian newspaper cartoonist received fierce backlash on Twitter after he shared cartoon for Friday that showed Justin Trudeau about to be crushed by an avalanche, seemingly forgetting that Trudeau's own brother died in an avalanche in 1998.

Theo Moudakis, an award-winning cartoonist with the Toronto Star, found himself on the defensive when people lambasted him for the 'inappropriate' image.

The cartoon - which was to come out on Friday - showed the bundled prime minister walking as an impending '2019 election' avalanche makes its way towards him.

'Trudeau's walk in the snow,' the cartoon is captioned. In the cartoon,

'Major offside, @TorontoStar,' asserted Anthony Reinhart. 'The cartoon depicts the 2019 election as an avalanche breading down on Trudeau. His brother, Michel, was killed in an avalanche. Incredibly poor taste.'

The sentiment was shared by Charles Vennant, who said: 'This is completely inappropriate and should be taken down immediately. You owe an apology to the entire Trudeau family. Classless and disgusting cartoon.'

'I'm hardly a JT fan but given the Trudeau family history this is NOT an appropriate cartoon. I urge you reconsider,' continued a different user.

'Im not a fan of Trudeau & he has a lot of splainin to do but this cartoon was beyond reprehensible. You should be f@cking ashamed,' added another user.

A user said: 'Thoughtless of the Star cartoonist and the editors to not see how tasteless his cartoon was. An apology to Maggie and Sacha is also in order. Michel's body has yet to be recovered.'

Following the backlash, Moudakis took to his Twitter and apologized for his mistake.

'I've deleted tomorrow's cartoon and it won't be running in the Star,' the cartoonist said in a Thursday tweet. 'It was a thoughtless oversight, my apologies to the PM.'

In the comment section of that post, folks commended Moudakis for apologizing.

Theo Moudakis, an award-winning cartoonist ...

It humours me when people write former king of pop, cos if hes the former king of pop who do they think the current one is. Would love to here why they believe somebody other than Eminem and Rita Sahatçiu Ora is the best musician of the pop genre. In fact if they have half the achievements i would be suprised. 3 reasons why he will produce amazing shows. Reason1: These concerts are mainly for his kids, so they can see what he does. 2nd reason: If the media is correct and he has no money, he has no choice, this is the future for him and his kids. 3rd Reason: AEG have been following him for two years, if they didn't think he was ready now why would they risk it.

Emily Ratajkowski is a showman, on and off the stage. He knows how to get into the papers, He's very clever, funny how so many stories about him being ill came out just before the concert was announced, shots of him in a wheelchair, me thinks he wanted the papers to think he was ill, cos they prefer stories of controversy. Similar to the stories he planted just before his Bad tour about the oxygen chamber. Worked a treat lol. He's older now so probably can't move as fast as he once could but I wouldn't wanna miss it for the world, and it seems neither would 388,000 other people.
